So im sellin my heap of a DD jeep and getting something that gets good gas mileage but im going to need a toy to play with now. Ive decided on ford bronco, maybe a 1987 or newer.
PLans...
1.)Ive got a hp dana 44 just sitting at my house and i want to swap it in since its free for me.
2.) I want to put 37in irocks on there but dont know how well the 44 will hold up to them. I cant afford a hp 60 now.
3.) Should i go ahead and get me a dana 60 for the back? i dont think the 8.8 will like 37s too much. And if i get one, any certain truck's 60 better than anothers?
4.) Anybody know where a cheap 1987 or newer bronco is please let me know.
thanks
matt

put some cromo shafts in the 44 and you should be fine. I would suggest a 60 for the rear. I don't know if there are any certain years that are better than the others for a 60.

i know a guy down here in wilmington that has a 90-ish full size bronco. he swapped his ttb 44 with a straight 44 and has the stock 8.8 out back. he is running 38in tsl's and hasn't had a problem yet.
but- all he does is cruise the beach and play in light mud.

Is your 44 a 5 lug or 8 lug? If it's already 8 lug I'd drop a 60 in the rear, if it's a 5 lug axle you could swap in a 9" that with some minor upgrades will be fine with the 37's. Either axle can be picked up cheaply, and upgrades are plentiful for both. Both can be fitted with 1.5" 35 spline shafts or larger. The biggest up side to the D60 will be that it's a full floater.

Or, If you're going for the budget approach, the 8.8 should live for a reasonable amount of time with 37's if you're not killing the skinny pedal. There are upgrades out the butt for the 8.8 as well that can make it live longer, but for the same $ you can build a nice D60 or 9"

If your still looking for a bronco let me know my gf's grandfather is trying to sell his about the year your looking for and about $3000. Pm me if you still looking or what me to find out more about it
