So the wife's 11 year old yellow lab gave birth to a healthy black pup last night followed by a still born this morning. Anything we should look out for? Thanks

Do you know how many she was carrying?

I've never had a dog have pups, so I don't know much... but Congrats on the new puppy!

Dang...only two??? Our labs were usually in the 6-8 range. Seeing as one was a still birth, that might be an indicator of potential issues with the other pup...so don't be surprised if it gets eaten...seriously, even if the issue isn't detectable by you.

Her age might be a factor in the smaller number, I've heard of that happening before with an older dog only birthing one or two.

We did have a cat, when I was a kid, eat one of her kittens. That was weird to learn about when I was eight (when I discovered the head).

I say call the vet. :)

Congratulations!

Well had to separate pup from mom last night she was caught by me and jen with it almost all the way in her mouth and when stopped she just kept picking it up and moving it when it would try to feed. Checked momma and not much milk is coming out so time to bottle feed. Gotta get some formula today with the clost... stuff in it.

Unfortunately my mom just called to break the news to us...our sweet little puppy didn't make it. She stopped breathing & they weren't able to revive her. We knew it was a possibility but its still heartbreaking :(
