Hey everyone,
I was hoping my first post would be looking for some good spots to go wheeling around asheville, but things haven't quite worked out.
Came up here to buy a tj that needed axel joints. Was planning on fixing it and hitting the trails. While getting parts for the tj it seems the water pump went out in our 12 jku. Got it towed to the dealer (so much for going back to charleston on mon)
Now we're trying to fix the tj and everything is rusted togeather. I'm about to go buy a torch to try and get the axel nut off. I'm afraid I'm going to destroy it in the process. Of course no one has one in stock.
I'm wondering if anyone is the area has a dana 30 laying around w the axel nut, or an axel nut that I can buy off you? Or any ideas on where I can get one.

Hopefully we can get this fixed and still have some fun, if not we'll be back up soon.

Where are you located at? Are you just replacing the ujoints? If so make sure you only use the non-greasable spicer joints.

Sounds like a fun vacation. You could always buy a new stub shaft from an auto parts store, it should come with a new nut. Find someone with an impact wrench.

Yea been trying to buy either a nut of shaft, no one has it in stock. Heck, auto zone doesn't even have a listing for the front shaft.
Was debating on buying an electric impact, but I've ran into this problem a few times before and usually even a impact doesn't cut it. Heating it up is prob our best bet, but there is a good chance the nut will get destroyed in the process.

Yea, really fun vacation lol

last time i had this problem, i was bouncing up and down on a 15' piece of pipe trying to get mine off (for the first time that is) and at that, the nut just stripped on the shaft.

get ya a cold chisel and split the nut. only option i know, but i always rebuild used shafts and I've got spare nuts just lying around.

I think i have one...let me check and I'll PM you if I do. I'm 5 minutes away. This is the 32mm axle nut we're talking about right? I just did a u-joint on mine yesterday.

Paging Jody Treadway!!!!

My shop is near Arden in Fletcher. Ill be there tomorrow if you need help...
I have spare shafts and axle nuts there if you need them.

Oh, and unless you are replacing the shafts there is no need to remove the axle nut. Just remove the 3 12 point 13mm wheel bearing bolts. Then remove the hub and shaft as an assembly in order to service the joints.
