I'm going to be getting new tires for my JK and I was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions on tires?
I'd like to have some with high ply, like 8-10ply. I've been looking at Toyo Open Country, Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac, and Pro Comp Xtreme Mud-Terrain.
Any suggestions on tires and good places to get them are appreciated.

Goodyear MTR - radial - smooth, almost solid center so long life and not so loud - bogger claws on the outter edge so great traction off road. Seem them in action and just bought a set.

Yea, I looked at the MT/R's and they're very nice. I'm actually at Chrysler right now getting a lift installed and they have a used Jeep in the lot that has a set of MT/R's on it. Very nice tires.

I think GubNi is talking about the MTR with Kevlar (relatively new one) and I would agree. I have not run them, but saw about 200 jeeps with them at Moab last year and not one person had something negative say. Granted I didn't talk to everyone who had them, but you get the point.

I'm running Pitbull radial Rockers which are the best tire I have ever used off-road, but are the loudest I have ever used on-road. I would only recommend them if you are driving roughly 300 to 400 miles or less per month.

If I weren't running PB rockers, I would be on MTR/K's.

Yea, the MTR with Kevlar is what I was talking about. I'll have to look into those PB Rockers, I haven't heard of them.

eeek I'd hate to see that bill. why having dealer put it on? The going to warranty everything on the jeep still? you going to 35's?
The goodyears are good tires, so are BFG KM2's. I'm running Maxxis trepadors now that I really like, got the from Rides of Conover.

get some 15inch crager soft 8's to go with them for about $50 a wheel

The dealer is giving us a pretty good deal on installation so we went ahead with them.
I'll probably be going with 33's. The KM2's are too expensive for my budget. I was looking at your Treps at the last meet and they look pretty nice. How do you like those? How are they on the rocks? Do they shred easy?

Does Rides have a website?

I like the BFG KM2's

I LOVE the Mickey Thompson MTZ's but their just too expensive. And I agree with you mosh, the KM2's are very nice bu their also too expensive for me.

Edit: Lewis; is it 75 per tire?

I've heard good and bad things about the MTR's. I haven't run the new design but I did run the previous 2 designs and they were great tires. The only real gripes I've heard is that they are hard to balance sometimes due to manufacturing imperfections. It seems that anyone that has a problem usually gets a new tire out of the deal though. Now I have a couple of friends that run the Duratrack's and love them. Can't beat a tire with a mileage warranty.

I'm currently running 37" KM 2's on my JK and like them. I've also run the 35's on my JK. Also great. My next tires are going to be the Maxxis Trepadors.

I ran the MTZ's for two years only complaint I ever had was the compound seem a little soft for rocks. Every time I went out I would rip chunks out of the tread, but according to the reviews that is what makes the tire good for rocks.

I just bought a set of Copper Discover STT and I thought they looked a lot like the MTZ. After some research I found Cooper owns Mickey Thomson and Procomp tires. Everything I have read says the STT is harder compound then the MTZ so it won't be as good on the rocks but will hold up better.

Here is link that has information on almost every off-road tire available Look to the left side of the site you will all tires listed:

no its $75 off of set of 4 tires

The Mtr's and KM2's are within 20-30 of each other usually.

I've only had the treps for 3K miles now and only one trip to Uwharrie, they do great so far and no chunking, never heard that to be a problem with them. You really cant beat the price if you can get them in 33's from Rides, Call Brandon and ask 828-465-3800 what tires he can get in the size you want.

I've also heard about the MTr's being a bitch to balance, some taking over a pound.

mtr kevlar

i have owned a set for a year. i think they are a good over all tire. they hold up well in mud. good on rocks great in snow. road pretty good. year ago there was a 80.00 rebate. with goodyear card it was 160.00 rebate. the down fall is on the 80.00 rebate you have to wait 4 mo. for it to gett back.

I love my GY MTR/K's - quiet on the road and I have seen them "hug it out" on the trail - they are a smoking cool tire...
