I need new tires and I have a couple of questions. My dunlop mud rovers, albeit a good price, cant hold balance and are responsible for my death wobble. I dont go wheeling enough to get another mud terrain tire...so honestly, in a somewhat aggressive pattern that can hold its own, is there anything better than Bf Goodrich ATs?
Anyone know of a place with a good price? Ive found them at 124 a piece at Sears for 31s...

Im 90% sure I am getting 31s...but just to consider...how much would my fuel mileage drop if i went to 32s? Significantly?

try a better brand. BFG MT MTR etc all will ballance out fine... I run my 36 TSL radials unballanced with no issues...

Also if possible have the shop spin your rims bare to see if any are way off or possible bent..

This is very possible with new wheels. having bought three sets of the AR767 wheels in the past, 2 times one of the 4 was either bent or the center was off.

the third set of wheels I had the place I bought the wheels from spin them on their wheel mic stand before I even left the store ( they were not happy about it but I insisted because of the first few times).

I have 32" dunlop mud rovers and they have held their balance great. 30k+ miles and about half tread left. At about 80 bucks a tire, they've more than proven themselves in my opinion.

As far as AT's, I'd put the BF Goodrich tire up against anything. Watching stockers wheel year round for the last 4 years, I haven't seen another AT perform that at that level. Arn't they a 60k mile tire, too?

LTB Swampers are a good tire but definately not an AT but they're cheap.
And yes, check your rims, I had the same problem.

deuce 40s...i agree they have a good price. Mine are already done at 25K miles...so id rather pay 124 a tire for a BFG and have it for 55k.

anyone..any ideas about how much my gas mileage would change from 31s to 32s?

Really would need a lot more info, but it is going to be negligible.

You would see a bigger drop running the 31s 5-10psi low than you will in the size increase. IMHO

you can get bfg at's at sam's club for about $105 a tire on the 31" and i think they sell the dunlop mudrovers for about $100 a piece.

My gas mileage went from 17mpg to 13.5 mpg when I went from 30 inchers to the 32s. I also ran them with 3.07 gears and an auto, so that's got something to do with it.

The other thing to remember about changing tire size is they change the odometer too. With a bigger tire the vehicle has gone farther that the odometer says it has. I recommend the BFG A/T's.

don't forget that rotating and balancing your tires is a Major part of the longevity of your tires. so if you can get your tires somewhere that will rotate and balance them for free for the life of the tire, you're better off.

It's done. I decided to stay with the 31s. I love the way the BFGs look and ride. I LOVE driving my jeep again now that the death wobble is gone...what a difference.

Now...the steering wheel just kind of vibrates when I brake sometimes...but it doesnt lose control like it used to...what part of the brakes may need work?

vibrate under braking- 1st check rotors (assuming discs)

Yep, warped rotors. TJs are notorious for this. Hell, most jeeps are. Crappiest rotors I've ever seen from an auto manufacturer. You can get them turned at any brake shop if they're still in spec, but they will warp again. I'd upgrade them if the budget allows.

I sold a set of Bridgestone Deullers A/T, with 75K on them and the girl is at another 10k, a good 10k still to go.

This is the best set of tires i have seen.
