Recently bought a Jeep Liberty 4x4 and although I'm new to 4x4s the urge to go off road is irresistible. So I was looking around the site and see that Uwharrie isn't too far away and has some easy trails. Is this is a good place to get started? My Jeep is completely stock. I'm thinking something beginner level that I can drag the wife and little ones along, afterward picnic.

Best place to start! find some people on here headn up the day(s) you are wanting to, and meet them somewhere and have fun! you wont be let down.

welcome to NC4X4.Your Liberty will do just fine there.Jweezyferg hit it on the head in his post. Our group is heading up for labor day weekend and we are stocker/newby friendly.Good that you want to bring the family also.

Ease down the page to the club section and request admittance into the 4x4everyone group. We are talking up the trip in there. If any problems or questions, you can Pm me or rox&mud.

Uwharrie is a perfect place to start offroading. There are plenty of trails there that you can do in your stock Jeep with the wife and kids. I'd be happy to show you around the trails down there, as I'm sure many others also would.

x2 on the 4x4everyone club. This seems like the best fit. Being in a club setting for your first trip will make all the difference in the world. Even if you cant wait until they go, URE is still a great place.

Welcome to the board and to wheeling.
I'm local to you so if you got any questions, give me a shout.
BTW, we also have our trip listed in the upcoming section on the main board but like Jimmy mentioned most of the discussion is in the group section.

oh boy. you have no idea what your getting yourself into! be prepared to take on an addiction!

Thanks guys. I'm already starting to earn a reputation in my neighborhood for taking 'shortcuts' across some of the empty lots!

Best way to get started is sell that Jeep and buy you a Toyota!:D

 that didn't take long.

mroda, don't mind the yota guys, they just like taking up space on the forum, cause most of there junk is in the shop! :flipoff2: j/k...

haha, thats how it goes in here so be prepared to fire back at any moment. welcome to the insanity.

Well, lets put a stop to that IMMEDIATLY. that kinda thing wont make you any friends around here either. trespassing, or 4wheeling where you dont have ownership or permission (written permission) is a big no-no.

stick around here though, we'll show you the legal places to get your tires dirty.

Yeah, don't worry, only trying to be funny. I live in a development where a lot of new home construction is going on and a few times jumped the curb briefly after the bulldozers had been through. But point taken.

Like everyone has stated Uwharrie is a great place to get started. Any of the Green Trails will be fine for you. Just take it easy, As stated meeting up with people is the way to go. I started out there also, I wheeled URE for years before I found this site, It was always me and a buddy in my Jeep. Its a much more enjoyable wheeling with people who have a like interest as you.

I too would recommend the 4x4everyone group, great bunch of people to show you the ropes.

Good Luck and hope to see you on the trails one day.
