New to the area

I saw youtube videos of Hurricane Creek road and things like this.

I just wish there was a map of all things unpaved and 4wd required around here.

I just got the chance to watch this, and the first half of the video where they are just riding around going "oooooh look, a trail! Let's see where that goes!" is a good way to end up with a bad case of acute lead poisoning. I'd also question how public some of it was since it looked like a lot of it was on power line easements.

Please don't think we are trying to discourage you, but west coast wheeling vs east coast wheeling (or land use in general) is like comparing apples to Saturn. As others have said, look for a club or group going on a ride and try to find an open seat and see how it is out here. If you catch the bug you can get a vehicle of your flavor and go from there. At least being in East TN you're reasonably close to good wheeling. It's at least 6+ hours for me lol.

There are a lot of great things of living in the state of TN, but there are some things I miss out west. Still the benefits of living here outweigh the natural experiences of the west.

there is the daniel boon byway, that GOAT trail old buzzards roost, and hurricane creek. I heard there is some kind of 4wd road in the smokey mountain national park that is towards the west side of the park. I heard its pretty tame, anyone know about it? I was thinking of taking my minivan on it lol. Also just in general are there any other 4wd roads around here you guys know of besides what I posted?

goat trail hurricane creek can not be done in a mini van. the 4wd road goes off the parkway and you end up in the cherokee indian reservation. Near the GOAT trail there is a ton of gravel roads to travel on that will take you into the smokey mountain national park. you can get on gravel roads in harmons den and go to max patch as well as into tennessee and can go for miles and miles. they are fairly tame as well.

I was talking more about trying Parson Branch road with my minivan. Of course those other trials I'd drive in a jeep. Do you know much about parson branch road that is located in the national park?

Windrock is only about 20 minutes from you and has a lot of easy trails if you stay on the gravel roads. Plus you can rent a sxs there.

If you are looking for non-paved roads to drive a minivan on, here are a few:

- Old hwy 105. It is a gravel road. I've driven my minivan up it before.

- Rich Mountain Rd from Cades Cove. It is just a maintained gravel road , so a Prius could drive it. We saw two bears crossing the road right in front of us the last time I was there.

- Big Levels 4x4 Trail up in VA. I've never been on it, but it might be along the lines of what you are looking for. Might be too rough for a minivan, plus much farther from you.
