Just bought a 95YJ with a 2.5L 4cylinder,it has 111K on it and the rig is in great shape. It has an exhaust leak on the manifold ( I can live with it for a bit) I'm just not to familar with the 4cylinders.to me it seems to lack power and tops out around 50mhp. is there anything that can be done to get some more PEP out of it?. It has a 4"lift with 33" tires.

thanks

Great little engine, will run for 200k miles easy. Lots of low end grunt but like you said no HP :(

IMO there is nothing that can be done to help either, just my .02 My son had one that we tried everything from throttle body spacers, to different throttle bodies, to high flow exhaust, to high flow intake, to electric fan, etc, etc. From my experience there is nothing that will help with seat of the pants power.

With 4" and 33"s you should be able to go faster than 50 though. Maybe at least 65 :)

Same setup as mine. You should be doing more than 50, you prob don't have the correct speedo gear and it only looks like 50. Put a gps in the window and check your speed. Also, 5th gear is useless.

I have 2 2.5L Wranglers. Both have larger than stock tires. Without regearing, it will struggle.

I just insalled 4.88s in my girl freinds tj, with 33s it does great holds on hills well, it is an auto though

it has a 5speed manual trans, dont know what it is. We owned an 88 yj with the 258 in it and it had good power but I got deployed and familey moved back home so I sold it.I guess I'll regear it latter on and run it. It is a good jeep I'll try and post some pics. thanks for all the in-put I guess there isnt much to do with the motor.

The tranny is a AX5. Not a great tranny, but until it grenades, take it easy, then upgrade.

I've got an '01 TJ with the 2.5, 4 cyl. The previous owner installed an Airaid throttle body spacer and cold air intake. I put it a Banks torque tube header and Banks cat back exhaust. As JC said, there was no "seat of the pants" difference for the $$$ invested.

I regeared from 4.10's to 4.88's and it made a world of difference with 33's. Your speedo may say you're topping out at 50 mph but I'd be willing to bet the speedo gear wasn't changed and you were going faster than 50 - just like GotWood said...
