New tow rig!!

Picked up a 97 crew cab short bed f250 2wd 7.3 psd . Have some aesthetics to fix first. Has a tuner on it but stick exhaust and air intake. What's the recommendations here? Also what have you guys used for mirrors? These need replaced is there some kind of tow mirror that can be used? Thanks
 
Mbrp exhaust. 3rd gen dodge mirrors
 
I did a search and it seems most weld a plate. I saw one that drilled and bolted. Anybody here actually used them?

I have 11 ford mirrors. Bolt straight up but take a little wiring to work. Best money i spent on the Excurison. As for exhaust and tuner i am no help, i have a 6.8 gasser...
 
Thanks anyway. I was thinking I definitely am interested in this.... Up until the excursion part. I wanted an excursion but could never find one.

Depends on what it has now. If it has the chrome mirrors on bar stock, you can get the ones with the reversible heads. If it has the aero mirrors, it probably doesn't have the reinforcement in the doors for the big mirrors. Doesn't mean you can't add them, but it's more involved.

Yes, you can switch while its running. Done it that way on a Ford 300&351 gas and 6.9 diesel for years.
 
Towing in OD while on somewhat level ground on the hughway is perfect. Once you get into some terrain or mountains, kick OD off, as you can burn up the trans by going in and out of OD frequently. My 7.3 Excursion loves towing in OD around Raleigh.
 
I find mixed results in my searches. But it seems that more ppl do than don't. So ill keep it off unless im going to stay above 55 or so and for hills and what not.
