New Trail Section Open At Callalantee!

This weekend we opened up a new Welder trail option called "Easy Out". I have been eyeing this section which is just past the first turn off to the right for a couple of years thinking that it would make a good addition to Welder. Friday evening about 5, after a full day of riding, YellowJeepCJ, SPOA87YJ, Got4Lo, StretchASU and myself cut trees, brush and winched logs opening up a nice 300 yard section of creek with a large slab of slick rock and a couple of nice steps at the end, hence the name, Easy Out :) After we finished up I ran the section up to the last large step but was denied by some logs and had to winch. We hit it again first thing Saturday morning and again on Sunday. With all the traffic and being a new section it is undergoing constant change but I think the underlying rock structure is large enough to withstand the abuse nature and we can dish out and become a quality addition to the growing Welder trail system. As of this morning the trail had eased up some and many rigs were able to make it to the top with some throttle. There have already been several breakages and roll overs ( http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25853 ) so be careful! Another neat thing about the section is that it is lower than the existing trail and is completely viewable from the bypass without even getting out of your rig! To get to Easy Out, follow Welder past the waterfall about 1/4 mile. The first right will take you up to a step and a nasty hill climb while the main trail stays straight. At this junction you will see a new tunnel in the trees 45 degrees to the right and it will come back out on the main trail after about 300 yards. Hope you have as much fun on it as we did this weekend!

Those pictures dont really do it justice, that exit step was nasty before it got stacked full of rocks. Hopefully someone from the first group of rigs to try it saturday with us has some good pictures of it with a rig on it.

I have a few pics from earlier today, me and TD (mountainram) ran it and dug most of those stacked rocks out on the first couple of attemps. TD ended up pulling cable and I worked at it a few times being denied then on my last go round before pulling cable I hit the right line and stuck it. I will post up the pics as soon as I find my USB cable!

hill climb with roots, rocks & water . oh yeah. cant wait to try it out. looks like you guys had a blast. cyjkrawler , ill try and get over to your place one afternoon and pick up my propane system. thanks for hauling it home for me . and thanks to upnover for hooking me up with it.

CYJKrawler,
Thanks for opening the trail and leading us up it on Saturday. I had a great time and once again enjoyed wheeling with you!

Wish I had gotten a chance to run that section. We will be headed up there in a couple weeks and I will be sure to take a look.

Thats a cool offshoot of welder. I stacked a few rocks to help me up in the cherokee, but they were loose and i spun them out..However later that night, somehow, i led a group up through there and made it without the bridge!! I had a blast this weekend. I will post more in coming days. Thanks to all.

Hey D,
I was with Scott and G-rod when you and Aaron were on it the first time and there was some footage being shot (at least I think that was happening...) so ask around.

Anyway, interest is a bitch!

WHY DO YOU KEEP BOTHERING ME? LOL LOL LOL

Here are a few of Pull Cable and it lives up to its name again. My success rate on this trail is really bad 1 for 4 the one time was un-assisted and the other 3 were really assisted.

nope that doesent count, the only time I got it done was last fall. No such luck this year????

It could have been all those huge azz rigs that went up the day before and moved all the traction.

More likely it was your piss poor spotter... :shaking:

I was giving it a valiant effort until my master cylinder shit on me... But I will let my spotter take the blame:flipoff2:

What's with all this "valiant" stuff? Oh yeah, The Commonwealth. Are all you Virginia guys knights or something? :) Good to see both of you "valiant" guys this weekend. BTW Butch, the alloy shafts are working out great, thanks for the hook up.
