I most likely will be a cheap skate and not buy either. Current truck and tow rig for 6800 pound camper has 214K on the clock 2005 chevy 2500 HD WT roll up windows and reg locks. I travel for a living so no commute on this as I take the 96 xj to the airport.

Truck one
New 2017 GMC sierra SLE 2wd 1500 5.3 double cab with max tow package 5k miles. tow mirrors and brake control and zero percent financing the perks nothing special.

Truck two
2106 GMC sierra SLT Z71 4X4 loaded 5.3 crew cab with 20 K miles . Will get best rate financing from credit union

As you can see i hold trucks till resale value is nill . I rent ALOT of cars and found that my old ass really likes heated seats. Both trucks can be had for same price. Keep the pay cash BS out of this thread please and thank you
What you do?

Just rolled back in from AOP towing 7k in my 04 2500HD with 526k miles! I’d just rock what ya got! However I also have manual windows, locks, etc. it does get old. I really wish I had power windows and mirrors!

I also wish I had 4x4 as i have been hung up several times now in my wet yard. If you get a new truck, go for the 4x4!

Grand scheme of things, difference between 5000 and 20000 miles is negligible. If the trucks are the same price, sounds like you’re getting a helluva lot more bang for the buck from the 2016. I’m gonna assume the trucks are in the 35-40k range and the credit union will be somewhere in 5% range...so is a year older truck with 15,000 more miles, but ‘loaded’ worth an extra $4000 (assuming no down payment/trade in) in interest to you? It would be to me, but the older I get, the more I like rolling around in a mobile living room.

This. While I'm probably still a youngun to some here, I've pulled my time in work truck trim vehicles. When I went looking for my latest truck I wouldn't entertain any trim below Laramie simply for the added creature comforts.

I would pick the 2016, just because it's 4x4 and a crew cab. Those are options that are important to me but may not be such a big deal for you.

Also this. The crew cab has much more room than the double cab, and with all the rain this winter my truck is in 4x4 almost daily just to get in and out of my driveway.

Truck 2

I'll echo what everyone else has said, go with the nicer trim level, 4x4, Crewcab. Really just go with the 4x4. I've never been driving down the road and thought "I wish this was 2wd" but there have been a hundred times I've had the back tires start spinning, turned that magic knob and thought "I sure am glad this is 4wd".

Also, get truck 2 because it's almost 90 years newer!

you DEFINITELY need to buy the 2106 model so we can all see wtf trucks of the future look like.
I mean seriously, think of what the resale value will be in 20 years when it still hasn't been produced yet.

2wd in a truck for me is a non-starter...so its tough to answer what Id do if I were you because if you gave me a 2wd truck Id sell it.

2 other random thoughts.
New with 5k miles...check and see if its a punched vehicle. If so, nothing wrong with that inherently but it does change you legal remedies in a few situations.
Second Laura GMC in St Louis kills anyone else's GMC/Chevy prices. If you are going to buy a GMC/Chevy use them as a barometer. I know they have even paid to fly folks out there to pick up their new truck...not saying you should necessarily buy from them, but sanity check any prices against them to make sure its a good deal
