New twist on vehicle/parts buying...

I'm posting this in Chit-Chat as I don't believe it qualifies for a Swap Meet ad. Moderators, if I am wrong, I offer my apology, and please move it as you see fit. I don't know if anyone has tried anything like this before, but it seems like a half-decent idea.

Basically, I am needing/wanting a YJ, minus engine, tranny, t-case, axles, etc. In other words, I am looking for a decent YJ minus the drivetrain... at a cost relative to such a described vehicle. There are a lot of YJs for sale at about any price a person would care to pay, and there are also a lot of folks looking for various (good quality) drivetrain parts such as those mentioned above.

That being said, I would like to get together with a few people looking for some of those various parts. By doing that a person looking for an engine or particular drivetrain part could verify that it works suitably before buying it, and, after working out agreeable terms, we could both/all walk away with what we want.

Opinions... anyone interested????

This forum is as good a place as any to get this started. Maybe once you get to the point of parting it out, it can move to the classifieds.

So basically you're looking for another/couple other guys to split buying a YJ to part out?

That's it in a nutshell. I will buy a YJ, one way or the other, but this idea would take some of the unwanted-parts load off me while certainly offering some good options for any one who may be looking for any of the stuff I don't want.

One point to be made perfectly clear though, no promises or IOUs, the money (cash) has to be up front. I don't lend money, and my banker doesn't do machine work... things work better that way.:)

Since I got back to this thread before anyone else responded, here is a perfect example. I am real interested in this one: http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114195

Assuming the frame to be in perfect condition, I would jump on this in a minute if someone else would be interested in relieving me of some of the driveline pieces that I don't want.

Don, In the past I've always found it easier to just find a good deal on what I needed and part the rest myself. That way I'm not tied to anyone else or their BS. Not saying you can't find the right guys but I'm guessing there won't be a big market for stock YJ axles...

I think the shell is a better item if you can find it, i've seen em and bought a few exactly that way for very fair prices also...

I'll keep my eyes open.

Mike, you're probably right, but, as I am looking for something half decent to start with, am I going to be lucky enough find that in a shell-only? There are a lot of variables that seem to be going against that notion. Presently, my biggest problem is that I now actually have a worthwhile plan in mind and I'm getting like a kid waiting on Christmas. :shaking:
