I've been there the place is really cool...but
I still think there is something fundamentally wrong with spending millions of $$$ to build a concrete whitewater run when for the cost of a tank of gas and riding west for only 2 more hrs, you can be smack dab in the middle of some of the best whitewater in the nation. When it rains everything is running, from steep creeks, (think Nanty above the forest svc putin, or Big Laurel ~5 miles of solid 3+-4+ at the right levels, and it's only 30 min from Ashevegas, to big pushy high volume "western style" from the mighty F.B. when it's running big, like 9000 or more cfs, or when it doesn't rain try the Pigeon (if you can stand the smell) or the Oh-nooeee over in Clarksville,Tn solid 3+ all the way below #3 or short 4+ run down the olympic stretch. (if you can stand the lines)
Heck i pass 3 different play-spots (each good for different water levels) onmy way back and forth to work every day.
Sorry but I believe concrete is for buildings, basements and bridges, not for "world class white water runs"
Sorry
Rant off/
but the place is nice my wife's office (NC outward Bound) had a reception there for their board meeting.

I was out there the other weekend for a job fair. Hoping to work the rock climbing wall this summer. Its definately a cool setup and im glad they worked with the Tarheel Trailblazers to preserve as many and re route as many of the existing mountain bike trails as possible. Its a great area with a lot of potential although for now its mainly used as a training facility for kayaking teams.

went on the web site and it looks really nice and i think that when i get home from the sandbox i think that me and my wife are going to have to go and have some fun.

I agree, if you're up for a real outdoor trip this isn't the best place, but if your looking for training or instruction, I would think it would be ideal as the terrain will not change and instructors can be right there without being in the water itself. I'm hoping our 20something group can go this summer.

For a training facility it's top notch! They didn't spair a dime in building it, as I'm sure we as tax payers will be footing that bill for quite some time. I'm really interested in getting into moutain biking as I'm broke and modding the jeep may be too $$. So this maybe a good place to ride. Besides the bike trails are free!
