i have a ramsey platinum 9000 pound winch that has a freshly rebuilt motor but on its final trip out i busted the gear carrier output on it, and a new one is 200 plus shipping. sooo would it be worth fixing this one or getting say a MM 12,000 winch at 700 bucks or similar since my junk weighs round 5500lbs. the ramsey did scream for mercy quite a few times trying to get me off of pull cable in callalantee. im not interested in speed just strength

Snatch blocks are your (and your winch's) friend. With a few bucks spent on that you would easily out pull straight line on a 12k. Takes longer to spool out that much cable but the winch pulls harder closer to the drum anyway!

I have had a milemarker 12K winch. Took a dump after 5 pulls. It was warrantied, had four pulls on it, sold it while it still worked.
Your mileage may vary

todd in his heavy ass dodge has had nothing but good luck out of his winch. hell its pulled me out multiple times. i have heard mixed reviews on them though

Does he still have these for that price?
Don't know, but call him, or search around, they are available from other sources. The only down side i have found to them, they have a 9" mounting pattern, instead of the standard 10"
I made my winch mount myself, so it wasn't a problem.

I'm heading down there on sunday if ayone wants one of these winches. He does still have some left.

I will be coming from there back to the Raleigh/Wilson area and on to Greenville. I can stop on the way or a little detour for a little extra gas $$$.

PM me if anyone is interested
