Stay away from Banks. Is it stock exhaust with no muffler or is it bigger? If it's stock, put a 4 inch MBRP turbo back system on it. Great sound and it will lower your egt's.

well the exhaust comes out in front of the tire and looks like crap to me and i think its just 3.5in haust pipe coming out

Congrats. I just recently got my 02 7.3 but with a 6spd. It is straightpiped as well. What are your EGT's? No programmer and an BHAF intake I am seeing 1100 max towing my Toyota up 421 from Wilkesboro into Boone.

If it doesn't have gauges or the Edge doesn't have readouts for your engine vitals I would suggest getting EGT, Boost and Trans Temp gauges first and go from there.

MBRP on ebay for IIRC $265.

I put this on my 2000 7.3 dually, best mod yet...

ok thanks guys, which cold air intake would go best with that one?
best performance and price?

I have been running a K&N for 150k with NO problems Although they do not flow as good as others and get dirty rather quickly. I will be changing it to a Ford AIS kit soon. i believe thats the best out there at the moment.

For exaust i just ordered a Farm Boy Diesel 4" stright pipe for 317.00 to my door. Look up there site. Nice products and NC LOCAL

I did something very similar to the Tymar intake on mine and it does good. I bought a used SS 4" Silverline exhaust system from a guy for $50, he had hacked it up and cut the muffler out and put a 3.5" steel pipe in it's place, so I didn't have enough to make the exhaust come out the back after I fixed it, mine just dumps out under the bed.

I used a piece of the 4" SS (had a bend in it) for an intake, ditched the assembly close to the turbo that has the crank case vent hose attached to it, then put a filter on the end (same as the Tymar filter), think I paid about $30 shipped for the filter. I can take a picture if you like.

I routed the crank case vent hose out underneath the cab, I had read that the oily residue *may* lead to blowing off turbo/intercooler boots. Never drips oil, just a little white smoke when idling.

Jason (blaster1 on here I think) says his PSD runs better with the stock intake than it did with an aftermarket one, said he had issues with surging.

hey man, michael is right, i had problems with turbo surge on my truck. but im assuming your trans. is an auto. if so, your trans. will downshift while pulling a load, and you will have minimal to no surging. with a 6 speed, the motor just lugs, and doesnt push enough exhaust for the incoming air, and then you get turbo surge.

i also like the simplicity of the stock filter, and i never have to worry about washing/oiling all the time. the stock filter is cheap enough to replace when dirty, and every auto parts store ive been to, including walmart has the air filter in stock.

either way, nice looking truck. good luck with it, and have fun

I have a 6spd as well, I know what Jason is talking about, mine surges sometimes as well, I just back out of the throttle and/or downshift. Basically the ONLY time it does it is pulling the hill going up into Boone (with a trailer). Now that I have a larger trailer it may do it on other hills as well, but I don't expect much change as the new trailer seems pretty light as well.

The turbo surging is easily fixed with a new impeller wheel and I think its only around $150. Sure beats hearing the beautiful boom of a turbo wheel breaking in half.

S&B makes a very nice intake and a very good price. It is fully enclosed unlike most so its closer to a "cold air intake". They will also custom engrave almost anything in the plexyglass top

K&N as a drop in filter is ok. And from what I've seen, they don't give as many problems on 7.3s. I believe it's because they don't make very high boost so they don't suck as much air. I ran a K&N FIPK for about 3k miles on an 05 Cummins and noticed it wasn't getting dirty. Took it off and there was dirt inside the tube. The difference is K&N is 4 layers. AFE is 5 layers standard or 7 layers pro guard 7.

I have the s&b on my truck its nice. join powerstrokenation lots of great info. Also just advice that edge isn't good on the powerstrokes. Hard on the transmissions. Check out custom tunes such as php, swamps. As for the exhaust i would recommend pro flow sounds great and 4'' is about 300$. Here is my truck. Yours looks great

I agree, but I would check out DP Tuner, one of the best for the 7.3. You can talk to the owner Jody, and he will answer any and all questions.

My 02 is currently running a Tymar Intake. Stock Straight pipe and a TS Performance 6 Position. It will get a 4" Turbo Back from Farmboys Diesel sometime soon. All of those upgrades should net you decent mileage and power increases without breaking the bank.

i have a turbo back 4in on my 03 7.3 with the k&n that was on it when i got it and have have my filter off several times for different reason and have never noticed any dirt inside my tube, i really dont ever drive it hard though, its mostly just a tow rig and weekend driver
