I have searched a ton on many different sites and just wanted to get another opinion because ive never regeared an axle and will try to find different ones to buy with lower gears installed already if 4.56 wont be low enough.

-doing my first build and cant decide on what gears for the axle. its a cj7, 350,350,dana 300 4.1. 100wb. I plan on running around 40in tires. and it will see maybe 15 miles a week on the streets around town and trailered to tellico ect.

would a d60/14b with 4.56 be low enough for most places around NC or should i go lower?

thanks

With 4to1s in the tcase you would be fine with 456 gears. If you find the axles with 513 go for it.

with a 40" tire 4.56s w/ a 3 spd auto would be suffice especially with a 4:1 youd be well on your way in low range. A 5.13 offroad only would be ideal, but with a 3 spd tranny & v8 youd deffinitely loose that little wee bit of streetability. A 4.88 would IMO be best for overall, but again IMO it isnt worth regearing if your axles already loaded with 4.56s.

you will be fine, im running 4.56s with a 307chevy-700r4-D300w/4:1s and 38s Its does great... I buzz through the gears in low range with zero strain on the motor, you'll be fine with the bigger motor, and TH350 even with the bigger tires..
