Hey guys! I have been reading here and there on this site for a while now and finally decided to sign up. I live in the Candler are although I am originally from northern PA, I moved to canton in '93 and finished up high school there and eventually moved to Candler.

I bought a near stock (about as close as you can find these days) about a year and half ago and love it. It has 3" body lift with 31's, stock motor, Tcase and diff gears. All I have done to it is replace stock carb with a weber and I rebuilt the front end. I have a Tcase rebuild kit in hopes of silencing the annoying whine which I believe is the counter shaft/bearing. Just need to get a press and get her done.

Anyway, I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of some easy/mod trail rides. I have been on Ivestor a couple times, plan to do hurricane and gorges state park (although its mostly dirt roads from what I hear).

I have seen a couple threads mention shut-in road/trail, anyone have directions or info on this?

Here is a photo of a ride I went on last weekend in Jackson county, it's a short forest service/ no winter maintenance road, Wolf Mountain Rd. I do a lot of fly fishing in that area.

Thanks guys, I look forward to chatting with you!
Chris

I have no idea where the places you are talking about are at, but welcome to the forum either way!

Gotcha, well you should look up Uwharrie National Forest. You should be able to do everything there no problem and if you pack some camping hear its well worth the drive. Luckily it's less than an hour from me so I go about every weekend during the season.

I have read some about it and seen many pics, just Linda intimidates me. Guess I need to chat with someone who has been there. I love to camp! It would be a bit of a haul in the Sami since I don't have a way to haul it. It is definitely possible though.

Was just looking for more day trips here.

Thank you though. Where are you located?

I'm from Candler as well...Hurricane creek is close and a fun easy ride...and it seems to be about the only local place to us that is legal

Howdy! Have you been on Ivestor when it's open? Ever heard or been on Shutin near hot springs? I have found a couple threads that reference it but, no real information.

I wouldn't worry about Linda :D

Ah, brown mnt is close.. would be fun for the not so far 45 minute drive.

True.

Are there enough moderate/easy trails at brown or uwahrrie to spend a whole day wheeling? I don't mind driving to go for a nice ride but I don't want to drive too far for an hour or two ride.

Thanks guys!

Brown, no, but you'll fit in with all the ATV s there. Uwharrie, YES, you can pretty much make a day of it, & they offer more than just 4 wh. trails.
Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome! So what are you trying to say "you'll fit in with all the ATV's there"? Haha. I do have a slightly longer wheel base than most ATV's but those darned side by sides, they're a different story!

Thanks for the info!
Chris

I haven't been to either of those...my friends and I usually go to the Gulches...its actually a shorter drive than to uwharrie

That thing looks familiar. I think I have seen you on 23 a few times. I live in Waynesville and works on the west side of Asheville. If you see a green explorer with 33's over the next couple days, its probably me. Ive got a NC4x4 sticker on the right quarter glass.

Well, my family lives in waynesville And I travel 23 a lot so it's a good possibility that you have seen me then.
I will keep an eye out for ya. I travel 23 every morning from 151 to I40 to get to work.

Chris

Also, they wheel in down here right outside of bristol in a town called greeneville. . . harlan ky is only 45 minutes from here.

I know a fella from Greenville, tn... I will have to talk with him and see if he can figure out where to go.

Well, I have been knocking a few things off my "do to Sami" list. Haha!

Found a guy locally selling a 4.9:1 Tcase that I bought and installed! Wow, what am awesome difference! I am very impressed plus I got rid of that Nast whine that I had!

Also, instead of spending a ton of money on pre-cut ABS panels on the interior, I found a place in Greenville, SC that sells 4x8 sheets for 52 bucks (pre-cuts are 170 on low range) and the way it works out I could almost do two complete sets for samurai's. I think that I will save the extra and make some storable containers or compartments. Here is a picture of one of the front doors almost completed.
