Heading to Crackers Neck on Sat Aug 20th. Checking to see if anyone is interested and wouldn't mind being a trail guide? Talked to a few but no definite "yes". Located in W-Salem and can be in Boone @ 10-1030ish.

I'll go with ya. Dont know all the trails but I know most of them. Just let me know I can meet anywhere in boone.

Will be coming from Winston--421. Just let me know what is easy for you. A friend that has been there a few times might come otherwise a few guys near UNF and another friend will be there.

just stay the fuck away from caliente (sp?) that place is horrible, the trails are either completely flat or straight up/down.....you are asking for extreme boredom or potentially severe damage

crackers neck is fun like whoa though

I'd been hearing good things about the place?

Yeah, Calientee(SP) is mostly a 4 wheeling place. Lots of narrow trails and a tree was down on Welder when we were up last so a lot of waste of time there. Never made it to Crackers neck.

Lots of narrow trails at Callalantee so expect lots of pinstriping. Lots of good obsticles if you know where to look. I'd rather ride there than Crackers Neck. Last time I was there our group went over the tree at the top of Welder.

Justin u cant keep up with a rubi. But if you wat to try give me a call man. We'll do it.

Just for the record, the spelling is: Callalantee.
(Which I have heard pronounced: Cal-a-lan-Tay & Cal-a-lent-E)

I was at Callalantee a while back, and I can definitely see why someone with an open/open set-up would complain about the vertical challenges. --- Some of the trails are pretty damned steep; with lots of loose rock thrown-in for good measure… Without a locker, I’m not sure that I would have made it up some of them myself.

Of course, I suppose there’s another way of looking at it…
If a group of Isuzus can run Welder (without breakage), how hard could it really be? :burnout:

Without a doubt - some of the trails are pretty narrow, so if the thought of getting scratches bothers you, you’ll probably want to go somewhere else.

I’ve also been to Cracker’s Neck, and there are a few trails over there that are mighty narrow too. --- One that we ran was barely even a trail at all… more like an over-grown / long-forgotten goat path of a logging road, with a dead-end at the top (and we didn’t even have anyone named Josh in our group! )

I might be headed to Mountain City this weekend to visit a friend... Maybe we'll see you guys out there.
--- What CB channel do you think you'll be running?

Cheers!

Crackers NEck will soon be closing. It has been sold, so enjoy while you can

WHAT? Spill it Chip :(

Is there any word on who the new owner is, and if they just wanted some land, or if they are a company buying it for the purpose of development?

I am hoping for a private investor who has long term plans for it that wont close down the land.

Also is there a timeframe on the closing and is this fact or rumor? Just wondering who the source of the information was originally.

Channel #4. Not worried of getting scratches just have never been there and want a trail guide. Plan is to meet at BP on 421 in Boone @ 1000 and go from there.

How soon?? I was planning on goin up in mid September?? This is really gonna suck!

Straight from the owner of the land. Not sure of the closing date, butcould be as soon as a month, as late as November. It is a loss though. Good rock Gardens there to play in. And plans for developement, sorry.

I have been hearing it would close soon. I love the trails there. Rode Callalantee on saturday and CN on sunday. Both have some really good stuff if you know how to find it.

Channel #4.
Me and my buddy in Mountain City keep playing phone tag  - but AFAIK there's still a good chance that I'll be down there this weekend... if so, we'll see if we can raise you on Channel 4 and maybe meet-up somewhere on the trails.

Bummer about the sale/closure of CN :( That's all the more reason for me to try and get down there!

Does anyone know if they're still selling Trail Passes at the Country Store, or do you have to go all the way over to the office at Callalantee now?

Cheers!

The store is now closed. You have to go to the camp ground to pay. They do have someone watching to see who comes and goes at CN. If the deal is still going that was, you can ride all weekend for free if you make it threw the mud hole at the camp ground.
