NHRA funny car body explodes and goes into crowd at Zmax

I went to my first pro series 4 wide drag racing event this weekend and I will never forget it. I'm not an NHRA fan ( I did go up drag racing), but the experience was unique unlike any sporting event I have seen. The feeling of your chest imploding when 40,000 horsepower blows by you at 330 mph is mind blowing.

To add to that experience, one of the funny cars exploded and the entire body flew off into the stands- it was an "oh my God" moment. We were row 7, crazy.

I was sitting on the other side when it happened. Not gonna lie I was waiting all day for it. I love the 4 wide, it was the first time for my girlfriend seeing over 200mph cars. And we caught a top fuel starting up and breaking in in the pits, that was a first for me, I now know why they have gas masks on. That was rough!
 
I grew up at these events as a kid. I remember standing in the pits at the cars worming up. We used to have a game as kids, we would see who could stand there the longest. I remember eyes watering and snot flying but I was not giving up!!! I haven't been in years because I got out of that mess when I got older and I've been into four wheeling ever since. I would like to take the kids to see the big guys, but there's only one place we'll go, thunder valley!!!
 
As often as those bodies go flying, I'm surprised more people haven't been hurt.
And I'll agree, zmax is a lot nicer than bristol...but even 4 wide doesn't compare to being in a valley and hearing the cars go.
 
man i love being in the tunnel when the cars go over, up there in the Valley!! you miss the pass but the sound is so wild!!
