niagara falls

I stopped by a few years ago, spent a few hours walking the canadian side. I guess I wish we had more time so we could have taken a boat tour, or just walked down some of the steps. About all I can offer is that I hear the American side isnt worth going to because you can't see chit; need to be in Canada to see the good stuff.

x2. I grew up in upstate NY and my step-Dad went to college in Buffalo so I was able to go to the falls several times. The Canada side is much better. Sorry, thats all of the info I have

if you are going to be in toronto....be sure to go up in the needle and check out the glass floor. also be sure to visit the steam whistle brewery.

locals are very cool. nightlife is good too!

So this is the kind of thing I'm looking for, thanks.
Plan right now is to hit Toronto for about a day and a half, then swing by the Falls for a day on the way back (flying in/out of BUF).

Wife has no idea where we're going, for our anniversary trip I just told her it'd be a surprise and she'd find out when we got on the plane and arrived at each spot.

Unf. she's not a fan of heights, hoping I can convince her to at least try the Skylon tower at the Falls.

How is Toronto for transportation - is driving reasonable, or better to use public? Noted on the brewery, other cool stuff?

toronto isn't bad for transportation. its a big city and there are plenty of options for travel. they do have a complete underground mall and network of subways and walk ways. depending on where you stay...you probably have access to the "underground" from your hotel.

Things I learned on a trip like that:

Get local beer.
Hard Rock Cafe in the ballpark is a good way to catch a game (if they still have a team)

Do NOT rent a place on Church St. or go there. But get something near the needle and walk everywhere. It's easy peasy and seemed fairly safe and clean.

Cuban Cigars at the border a more expensive than in Toronto itself.

The tunnel under the falls is great. The Maid of the Mist ride is interesting if you're into big engines. The captain holds that boat at station in the middle of some wild-assed water and keeps it fairly still. Dude knows how to play the throttles.

Jet boat ride is something I wished I'd done.

Bars have good beer. Try and get a Cask-Conditioned Ale while you're there. You'll like it.

Canadian radio stations don't follow the FCC rules, i.e. they say all the words that would get this thread moved to the garage. That kind of caught me offguard when I relaized what I was hearing.

Cool!

Sure you already know, but after june 1st you must have a passport or nexus card to get into stupid Canada.

Didn't know - but you have to have one to get back into the stupid USoA so that's already covered :driver:

Damnit, I really wanted to take a ferry from Buffalo (or, wll the coast obviously) across the lake to Toronto. Oddly, there isn't one. looks like there used to be one from Rochester, but it closed in '07 b/c it was losing bigtime money.

Rochester also had some REALLY good beer. Also, there's Angotti's beers of the world up there. Great place. Got me my first Thomas Hardy's up there.
