ok so i have a 94 v6 hardbody and im going to do a sas in it but i have ran into a problem. i have the axles i was planning to use but i dont think so anymore haha. so my problem is my front is a D44 out of a 78 f250 and it measures around 52 inches from inner c to inner c! and my rear is going to be ford 9 inch out of a 79 bronco which is 65 inch wms to wms. i went in know that the axles would be a little wide for the truck but im thinking the front is goin to be WAY to wide. any tips? im startin to think about trading them sooo...but i wouldlike the help first, cause i already bought hp gears and a new carrier. thanks

You could use EB axles or have those narowed....or just rock them full width...you'll be more stable and have less tire clearance issues

thanks but how much approxmate over all width is the front goin to be wsm to wsm after disc brakes and what not? b/c from knuckle to knuckle its around 60" do you have a guestamate? i just wana make sure the match in width thanks

5 lug swap

I have a 79 ford 150 front axle that is 5 lug and i need to convert it to 8 lug. If you decide to go that route I would love to swap everything. I'm doing a full with swap on an xj and I love it! If the width bothers you too much you can get wheels with the right offset. I've got the rear axle in and I'm running 03 cummins wheels for now and they bearly stick out.

thanks guys. NCjeeplover, whatis the width of the front? i dont have the 8 lug outers i was planing on use the 5 lug flat tops sorry. but is the front setup for leafs or coils? is the front high pinion? what rear axle is it? i might be intrested in swaping you for mine.

dana 44

I've got a hp dana 44 with coils. My whole front supension is based off the radius arms. My orignal plan was to run a 9" rear like you but I ran accross a dana 60 with the right gear ratio for 100 bucks at a u-pull it yard. So my plans changed. I don't have the measurment right off hand but I'll check it today.

Rock it full width. Run spacers on the rear to match whatever the front comes out to.

IF you decide you want to shorten it call Chase at ECGS, we can do it for you no problem.

Just remember if you have an axle narrowed, and custom length shafts cut and splined, then go off somewhere like Harlan or Moab and break one...you can't just go down to Napa or the local junkyard and fix it. You'll be out for at least a couple days.

One more thing to think about, you can the full width axle cut down to fit a factory shaft. Get the long side cut to EB or Scout 44 width, that should match the rear 9 and keep some of the tire under the wheel well
