Been out of the Cummins fold for a few months now, but the last I had heard of this it was a V-6 motor.
(Honestly I cant imagine why CMI would produce a 5.0 V8...absolutely stupid decision if true)
They were working with both Aisin (EU) and Allison (NA) on transmission options.
It (the trans) will not be a true Nissan product, I dont think.
Also the numbers in the article seem strange. The plan, as I understood it, was a 30mpg 4WD 1/2ton truck. Those HP numbers wouldnt achieve plan and would ruin Nissan's CAFE standards.
Oh, Shawn. The exclusivity is through 14 model year. From there Cummins wants in the 1/2ton market. RAM (different ownership than Dodge/Chrysler now dont forget) doesnt want to play. CMI is going into the half ton market.
Like many of their recent decision, its a curious one at best. I cashed out some 1,100 shares of CMI back in May for just that reason.
