Ever had to use a spotter going in the dark, in reverse and uphill? I did in Harlan a couple of weeks ago and not fun, so I gotta figure this out. I first thought that it was just mud built up on the sensor but now that it's all clean I still have the issue.

I have them as long as the brake pedal is down, off the breaks and no back up lights. Where to start? fuse? wiring? I can follow directions but I have no mechinal skills to speak of. Or should I bite the bullet and take it to a shop?

Yea check the fuses first. Then check the wires going into and out of the reverse switch or neutral safety switch if its an auto. If power is coming out of the switch ( the test light is the cheapest tool to use here ) then move to the bulb sockets. If there is power at the socket then you may have a bad ground wire.

A ground problem would be my guess anyway since you say it lights up when the breaks are depressed.

As far as wheeling goes factory lights aren't bright enough for me I like to add fog or tractor implement lights under the rear and wire them up with a relay to come on with the factory reverse lights.
