No more auto, how to start it though?

So I blew up 4L60E #2, and instead of the same problem a 3rd time through I am opting to replace it a manual trans (SM465 from an '82 GMC Jimmy...strong like bull!).

Anyway, before I get it to the long process of swapping and fabricating I wanted to run the motor one last time (I say one last time because the starter leans against the tranny and once I pull the tranny down there'd be no way to mount a starter).

The problem is, there's got to be some sort of a park sensor that will not allow the starter solenoid to open up unless the truck's in park that I need to now bypass. I have the tranny wiring harnesses just dangling (as they will be forever now), and I'm sure it's a matter of jumping one wire to another, but need help.

So, if I no longer have an auto, what do I have to do to start this fawker?

uhhhhh..... turn the key on and get something (wire/screwdriver) and arc it across the power and trigger wire on the starter?

It doesn't need juice...run a jumper wire from the battery directly to the trigger wire on the starter, if you don't understand then I wouldn't attempt a tranny swap.

your profile says ... Chevy S-10 Blazer '96 Is there a electrical switch/selector thing that hooks the the shifter spot on the tranny ? Make sure that also thinks its in park/n..

My question was to see if anyone knew of any electrical switches I would have to bypass. I read on Pirate that I have to jump 2 wires in the 4L60E ECM harness, but I was trying to pin-point which ones.

I know there's a Park/Nuetral safety switch, but I had the shifter in P, so that wasn't it.

I was looking for a more perminent solution than this. I'd like to get this figured out so I don't have to carry a 4' long battery cable to start my $hit wherever I go...could be a good theft deterrent though. :D

if you have one big cluster of wires going into a a black box on the d- side then your neutral start safety switch is in there, march to the zone and pick up a haynes look at the wiring diagram.

I actually already got it started from the help I got from Pirate...did you hear me say "help" from Pirate?..ha ha!

Anyway, on the wiring harness that goes into the tranmission on the driver's side, I ran a jumper wire from the Purple wire to the Yellow wire (I was told this was also supposed to be purple, but not on mine). These are 2 are larger gage than the other 5 wires in this harness (that's how I could figure mine out).

So what it's doing is running a wire from the crank fuse output directly to term. #85 of the starter relay.

maybe I'm missing something in your original post you said "start it one last time".
You could wire up a starter button that did the same thing as I've mentioned if you run out of options.

Well I guess I also meant to say that I wanted to figure out this next step for after the tranny swap, but it all worked out fine.

I should have been more clear with my question, but I'm glad I got it figured out!
