So glad I found this forum! But can't believe I just missed the 101 training course at jwahar ride this weekend :(. I have a stock 1998 wrangler that I have taken on the beach a few times this summer but would love to find a group or class to help me learn more about my jeep and to go off roading with! I just don't know how to begin...suggestions? Thanks guys...you look like an awesome group!

Always wear your seat belt, carry a fire extinguisher, 1st aid kit, & tools. Never ever ever wheel alone. After that it's just seat time with others who know what they are doing. Expect scratches, dents & broken parts. It is not if, but when it will happen.

Urotc is what you need!!! Scot has a great off-road 101 course.

are you plannin on sticking with the beach or are you able to make the trek up to the mountains for trail riding. This hobby isn't cheap and is time consuming so what you are interrested in doing needs to be discussed first. What are your plans for youre wrangler?I wheel mostly stock class vehicles myself and wouldn't have it any other way.

here's a couple quick pointers to get you in the right direction, forward that is lol. deflate tires in sand, never lose momentum when going through sand or pretty much anything, don't try something in 4Hi and think if you get stuck 4Lo will help cause most time it won't, never just romp down on the gas when you start spinning-usually ends with digging you deeper, and most of all have fun and like another person said, time behind the wheel makes all the difference. and definitely follow his advise of not wheeling alone too. happy wheeling and welcome to the sport!

That's good advise for a beginner.

Get up with me. I'm local and wouldn't mind giving you some training until you can take one of those courses offered.

And wheel it stock until you figure out what you want to do with. Disconnecting the sway bar and airing down the tires will do worlds for your capabilities and don't cost anything to do.

I just went out this weekend with a buddies stock JK with some mildly aggressive tires and I was amazed at what it would do.
