I have a 1994 22re toyota pickup 5 speed it was just rebuilt a month ago bored 60, LC engineering pro camshaft.I got it back from the guy when it still had 31's on it and it felt like it had no power. He told me just break it in and we will see from there, well 2000 miles later and its the same so0 weak! Now I just SASed it with 5.29's and 36" TSL's and it feels the same,I can gear down in 4th gear up steep hills and it still slows down! The motor sounds like its running great,no smoke or nothing but when I let out on the clutch its just weak.I had another mechanic set the timing to LC's specs and valves and it wasnt much better.Could the chain be off a tooth?I dont know what else it could be!!!ALL HELP IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

is your clutch slipping? what octane gas are you running? what is your compression ratio? what is you basis of comparison for this? toy trucks with a 22re are not exactly speed demons. i would check timing though, it could be off. also, how did you break in the motor?

If the timing chain was off a tooth it would have no power, I've seen them jump a tooth before

You can change the chain timing just removing the valve cover and pushing the tensioner back with a long screwdriver

Well I was comparing the power of what it use to have when I got it then a year later it blew a ring in the first cylinder.I think I will try to check the chain and go from there dont know what else it could be.

whoever degreed the cam and adjusted the valves would have to be an absolute moron to not notice it was out of time and if that is the case he had no business setting the cam up. doubtful its out of time. if someone in fact set the cam. Do a compresion check. maybe a ring is broke or poor cylinder job.

Are you still running the factory exhaust manifold ?

A header ( LC Engineering recommnded ) and 2" thru the cat to 2.25" out the back and you'll see SOME power gain, the factory exhaust is very restrictive. possiblity that the current cat ( if it still exisits ) is partially plugged up, causing a restriction as well.

There are other headers available for the truck/engine, use what you like, there are as many headers for this engine as there are poinions ( and then some) The LC is what I had used and it was a night and day differance just doing that mod and playing with the timing and AFM. I was pulling 33" MT's with factory 4.10s with little problem, and getting about 18MPG doing it on the highway YMMV

HAHA yeah exactly I thought the same about the cat I also since the SAS put on a LC header, cut out the cat and ran 2.25 pipe back to a muffler then out.I did it all at the same time didnt really tell that much difference except for noise. Also to Cperry I have checked compression and all cylinders put out well.

If your cam timing is set to the crank and ignition timing is ok, all other items in good working condition, I highly suspect the LC camshaft specs for a torque application. I also wonder if the cyl head has been excessively surfaced. Cutting a 22re head prompts the cam timing to go retarded. Cut it 1/8" and you are an entire cam tooth retarded or 10 degrees. This is really bad.
Your cam description mentions LC performer cam. If LC sold you something other than a low to mid range torque cam you are suffering from the wrong cam profile for your vehicle setup. Too much valve overlap or timing will drop effective cylinder pressure and overall daily driving efficiency. There are charts on the internet that will match your previous gearing and tire diameter to your new setup to determine if you lost or gained when you went up in tire diameter. I'll let you research that issue. I have seen the wrong piston rings be installed on rebuilt engines or rings turned the wrong way. And, if chrome faced rings were installed, they will never seal well.

My $0.02 and things to think about....

I personally think that LC stuff is over priced junk. Call DOA Racing Engines, they can walk circles around the LC guys. Ive been in trucks with LC cams and ive installed several DOA 270 cams and they worked much better. As said before check the chain and cam. As far as the header I would go with a Doug Thorley before a LC.
