On the dash, indicators show trans is in "R" position. "Shifter" is clearly in "P" position. If it hit the release solenoid under the console, I can move shifter/lever to any of the various positions, but the trans isn't shifting. The dash indicator doesn't change regardless of where the shift lever is. I'm guessing either full cable replacement or (hopefully) a bushing on the trans lever side. I REALLY need to move the vehicle before attempting anything, as its sitting on the side of the house in soft ground with an incline to the back and side. I cannot reach the trans shift lever from the bottom side without jacking it up and I do NOT feel comfortable jacking it up until i can get it to level concrete.

Bucket: How F'd am I?

The bushing on the cable breaks on those and it falls off the transmission. You have to buy the whole cable from GM. To replace the whole cable you have to remove the front seat, carpet, maybe the console. It's a huge pain in the ass. If you look at the cable the piece that's broke has two small plastic stops to keep it from coming completely off, since it can slide to adjust the cable. If you take a small carbide bit on a dremel you can knock those stops off the new and old cable. Then you just slide the end off the new cable onto the old one without removing anything inside the truck. Snap the cable back onto the transmission lever and install the lock clip that locks in the adjustment. If you look at it all this should be pretty clear.

We see this all the time at work on trailblazers and envoys. Customers always say to do it the quick way to save a couple of hours labor, LOL.

Any thoughts on www.bushingfix.com

I know I can do this if I can lift it up...I just can't lift it until I move it.. and can't move it (shift it) until I lift it.....

Those should work. I've never used them though. The Chevy dealer keeps a cable in stock here in Fayetteville. We just get one when they get towed in.

When they get towed in at work we get a guy to hold the brake and we shift it to P or n and crank, then shift to d and pull it in the shop. It's a tight squeeze on a 2wd, but it can be done and I'm not a small guy. Just get someone you trust to hold the brake real good and roll as far under as you can feel for the shift lever on the left front just above the transmission pan. You can shift it by hand.
