I keep my phone on top of the steering column when I'm driving. It's usually running Waze, so it's easy to see sitting there leaned up against the cluster. The case for my old phone had a lot of exposed silicone on the edge, so it wouldn't slide around, but the case for my new phone does not, and it falls in the floor every time I go around a corner.

I've been looking for a non-slip pad that I could stick to the top of the column to help the phone sit there. I even looked at cutting up the silicone pad out of an old phone and adhering it to the top of the column. Unfortunately, all my tape is silicone-based and won't stick to the silicone pad.

I found a few different products online, but the reviews are mixed. Some of them are actually "tacky" to the touch, and people complain that the pad sticks to their phone better than it sticks to the dash. Others are (literally) just pieces of carpet padding.

Has anybody found a product that doesn't completely suck? Ideally, it would be something I could cut to fit and that would adhere to the steering column so that I didn't have to worry about it moving or coming loose on its own.

What about just putting a strip of some kind of "hook and loop fastener" on the back of the case, then the mate on your dash?
The Industrial Strength Velcro is crazy strong in sheer so it wouldn't take much, and the material is low-profile so its shouldn't add much mass to the case.

... in our lab we have 24" monitors stuck to a carpet wall w/ it.

If it were a GPS or something, maybe. But it lives in my pocket or on my desk 98% percent of the time. I'd rather not add anything else to the phone case.

I tried Velcro on the dash of my car once. In the summertime, the heat makes the adhesive all gummy. What I ended up doing was taking a belt holster that the belt clip had broken and screwed it to a bracket that I made for the dash. Holds tight and keeps it clearly visible. I have since gone to a different phone, so I don't have the setup anymore, or I'd snap a picture.

What about laying down some thick beads of clear silicone to make a frame to hold the bottom in place on the column after it dries? Or some rubber cement?

I found these in the hardware section at Lowes. Adhesive on the back, soft and grippy on top without being sticky. Should work well.

I've tried two of the "sticky" pads made just for this from amazon and both were better than nothing but still not a solution. What kind of phone is it?

HTC in an otter box. The old case had more silicone showing on the sides, where the new one is more plastic.

Tried it out. Works sweet.
