Nortern tool winch

I try not to buy electric tools fron NT anymore. I'v been burned a couple times. Thier prices are cheap but you get what you pay for. Thier name brand power tools are actualy factory recondition. Most of the other stuff is cheap Chineese knock offs.

I'm looking at winches right now too. I think I'm gonna go with a Super Winch. Cheaper than Warn and I know several people that are running one with out any problems.

I don't wanna save a few bucks on a cheap winch, only to have it fail when i need it.

Just my 2 cents......

Yea, I know what you mean about reliability. I just saw it when I went by there and then looked it up and it looked very similar to the T-Max and have been trying to find out if it is a re-badged T-Max or a knock off.

I had planned to go with a Smittybilt XRC 8 comp winch but the way money is these days I got to check things out. I found a good deal on one $459.95, free shipping plus a tow strap and was going to get 4wheelparts to price match but they wouldn't compensate for the tax. I found another site that has the Smittybilt for $430.62 which will cover the tax but it doesn't come with the free strap.

The NT winch is less expensive for what looks to be a stronger unit. Just trying to make the most of my money.

Warn at amazon.com

Guys,
I'm not in the market for a winch but did some looking and found the Warn M8000 at amazon.com for $539.00 and free shipping. I've never used the smitybuilt but I have gone the cheaper winch route anly to buy a warn in the end and will never own anything else. I would spend alittle extra and get a faster winch that will last a lifetime. Trust me it's not fun to have a warn overnighted to tellico because you saved a couple of dollars on a less exspensive winch " ask me how I know lol"

I've got a 9500ti on my trail only rig to handle the serious self extraction and yes Warn is the best bet for the money.
My Mile Marker 8000 controller shorted out, thanks to me, and burned itself up. I'm just looking for a cheap but reliable replacement for the front of my wife's DD and occasional trail rig. Since it has been on her Jeep it has only been used to extricate others and has been a reliable winch. I don't want to sink big $$$ into a winch that rarely gets used.

I know that Warn is about the best but I'm looking for reliable and cheap for this situation which is the point of this thread.

Does anyone have any info regarding the NT winch mentioned at the top of this thread?

there is really only a handful of winch makers. they are all the same basic design. Every high end brand has a knock off brand.

the difference is the better winches are made of higher end material and will last longer and hold up better under stress and hard use.

Pretty much like everything else in you buy. You buy HP or Sharp and others but Cannon makes the parts. Nothing like the OEM world we live in.

My OP was if the Northern Tool winch was any good. No one seemed to know and I never found any real info on it.
For this use I wasn't looking for a high end winch just one that wasn't a waste of money. The NT winch is a great deal for the money but I decided on the Smittybilt since most people seem to have had good reviews of them. I know they have had their issues in the past but their warranty is a better than it was and with the 4wp "Extreme Warranty" behind it, it should be ok. I could have gotten the cheaper one w/out the syn rope but I've just hate "hiding" from steel cable. This winch only cost a little more than the MM that lasted me many years and pulled many people out of a situation. So if I get near the same lifespan on this one I'll be satisfied.

BTW, I really like my Warn 95ti on my Wrangler the most out of any winch I've ever used.

I use a come-along..........BEAT THAT SUCKAS it was like 15 DOLLAS!!:fuck-you:

It just takes a hella long time......

try smittybuilt winches i got one on my tj its a 10000 lb with synthetic line for 600
this vvvvvvvv
Well, I pulled the trigger on a XRC10 comp. Turns out it was only $65 dollars more than the XRC8. 4Wheelonline had it for $519 with free shipping and free 20k lb 20' tow strap. Got 4wheelparts to price match and then got their lifetime I break it they replace it warranty for a little extra $$. We'll see how it preforms, pulling others out.:D

yeah, i havent seen anyone with bad things to say about the smitty. especially with low usage.

good call on that one.

i kno youve done bought a winch, but i went wheelin a few monthsback with a guy that had teh northeren winch you first metnioned. he winched me with it 4 times that day and my buddy twice(im open/open, he was locked/locked, i kno, excuses). he said it was teh best money he spent and said you couldnt beat it fro the price.

i think there is something about the magnet wearing out in the cheaper winches. i will have to find where i read that again.
