North Carolina Rant

Example 4: When I used to read the local paper, there was often an article about how the Sheriffs dept was about out of running cars. My thoughts were if they would opt to replace engines, trannys and so on instead of buying new cars, they could stretch the budget a lot further. Not sure if they still do, but at one time Hickory City cop cars were bought when they were a couple years old, and all cops on the force had one assigned to them, to take care of as if they owned them. At the time I was told this, they had a good track record of it's success.
Many others but I'll stop there. I feel for your friend, hope he gets something soon

This is the one that gets me. I'll use the yellow school system trucks that rowan-salisbury school system has. For a long while there, they were buying X number of new trucks every year. While they had 'old' trucks sitting there with less than 20k on the odo. I can maybe understand if the truck has 120k on the odo, but when you have a perfectly good truck sitting there and could be used another 10 years and you're firing teachers, there's something wrong there. Figure, even in a fleet order, 2 trucks could have paid one teacher's salary for the year.

I also know a couple years back, Salisbury was making a push to go with all new Chargers in their fleet, can't remember the time frame, but I do know it's been extended due to the economy somewhat. I understand cop cars do see more abuse and wear/tear than the standard vehicle, but c'mon some of these cars are still extremely usable.

Then after bidding and watching cars go at the state auction makes me want to sell every thing I own there. The state gets top dollar for everything there for some reason? I think the drug dealers who lost them are over bidding to get the cocaine out of the gas tanks and tires? But that vette would have been a good chunk of change put back into the taxpayer system...

No doubt...I used to frequent some seizure sites, and some of those vehicles would sell for 3x's what it would get on the private market. It seemed the Raleigh sales site was worse than the Charlotte, but I just couldn't believe some of the prices those vehicles would sell for.

I guess upon further reflection, I feel like some of the sub forums are dividing the potential of this site.
We get little cliques going and there is no NC4x4 anymore. just a bunch of fractured subsects.

I've always felt this way about this place. the majority of members are from down east and stick together. even when I joined years ago that was what initially pushed me away from this place. now, I just tolerate it.

The $5.50 I gave to this website is some of the best $$ I've spent. I haven't had a rig to wheeling since 2008 so with this website I get to go cyber wheeling. To be 100% honest $5.50 is the cheapest forum membership I've seen Pirate 4x4 (bunch of A$$ holes) $20 a year Jeep forum is $40 a year!! On the subject of government spending my mom is a teacher & they get shafted more than any profession I've ever seen it disgusts me how little they get paid

Just adds fuel to the fire about the very topic and purpose of this thread. Raleigh Sheriff Donnie Harrleson (sp?) seized a nice new corvette last year and instead of selling it, the taxpayers bought new tires for it. Has anyone priced tires for a vette lately compared to a caprice? Wouldn't you think they'll be burning them off pretty frequently?

First, its Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison. Towns and cities have Police, counties have Sheriffs.

[stirpot]

Second, by using a siezed car the WCSO now does not have to buy a car for an officer to use. Sure, they could have sold the Vette and probably got enough money to buy a new Charger in police trim, but what about other siezures? Ive seen plain jane Chevy work vans, with the ladder rack still on top, converted to undercover rides. You cant sell that for a new Charger period, let alone one with all the popo goodies.

so it has to be one size fits all?
We can't sell the vette and keep the van?

Ok this thread is getting too serious.

im the new guy here and dont much about the state and its polititians....but if you want to talk about waste...just look at new jersey and their multi billion dollar project called xanudu....broke ground appor. 8 years ago, was supposed to open in 2009, then 2010, and havent heard anything about it, shutdown 4 years because the original backers went bankrupt or something like that, then donald trump was supposed to take over the project been sitting 75% percent complete and is the biggest eyesore in the state...sorry about the hijack

I'm all for a treu club having a dedicated bulletin board to discusss when there next meeting is, or having a centralized place for club votes etc. But when you have a sub forum and talk about where you are going wheeling that weekeend or discuss tech issues with someone's rig...heck bring that to the main board.
Maybe I want to join you on that trip.
Maybe I have the answer that is stumping you.
Or maybe, next time something is stumping me I will see how you solved your problems.
Dunno...just a bad trend in my eyes.

Well... you know what I think about all this, but I should probably say it here for everybody else's benefit.

I think it's better to provide club forums here for anybody that asks, rather than to have each of those clubs go off and start their own little forum for a couple dozen people to discuss club business and events. They're forking over money for some crappy shared hosting account, somebody in the club has to be responsible for setting the forum up, keeping the server secured and updated, etc, etc. And at the end of the day, having a couple dozen people hanging out over here and a couple dozen people hanging out over there is more divisive and cliquish.

As for the $5.50? <shrug> I like to think the board is free for anybody to use, and the guys that aren't paying are just as good as the ones that do. I'd really like to get rid of the subscriptions entirely, but the reality is (right now) that income stream is a huge part of making sure the bills get paid on time.

Guess I need to start picking up me some cans so I can come to NC4x4 and post an input about NC politics.:flipoff2:
I agree $5.50 is nothing. and I have been a member in the past. And I understand the need for money to keep something going, just look at the white house. maybe yoo TOO should look at ways to cut costs?
I thought when I first joined here initially that I was going to find some similar interests but didn't find what I was looking for. Except for excellent advice on about any subject matter from the vast knowledge here on non 4x4 related items. So I have just kinda used NC4x4 like any other newspaper edditorial lately for a free place to post a thought and for pure entertainment since there's usually something of interest happening here at all times. Non 4x4 related of course.
As for the attitude and the position / place I'm put in by so many besides saf-t scissors was a definate big turn off for me. Never once was I asked to participate in any professional manner? I think the posts above speak for their selves. Good luck bringing in money by your cornered approaches. I would have gladly participated again but not too interested now. I do recall I have an ad placed that will definately get deleted after I throw this fireball.
And I guess the term "new sherriff in TOWN" was a total oxymoron?

I've read this three times... and I still don't know what it says.
