My wife and I are planning a trip to Rovaniemi Finland in February. This is something that I've dreamed about doing for along time........ BUT..... While I love the cold, -30 is more than I have ever experienced. Any of you guys/girls ever travel north of the artic circle? If so what kind of advice can you give?

it was always -30 when my ex wife was in the room.....

Bring gear for all possible weather.

I went to way-north Canada for business and I checked the weather before I left to judge what to bring. The weather forcast was for -2F up to 5F during the day... it ended up dipping to -32F while I was there, and working outside. If I had died out there, they may have not been able to easily identify my gender if you know what I mean.

My advice would be plan the trip for summer.

Sounds awesome! I love those kind of adventures.

My experiences in the severe cold only got to minus 20 or so, but even at that temp I can say cover your skin. It didn't take long for anything uncovered to feel numb. Handwarmers are worth their weight in gold too.

Sounds like fun, what are you doing up there?

Friend went up to see the northern lights...same deal, -30. He'd been before and taken all the winter stuff....last couple of trips he has just rented all the parkas, etc. IIRC, last trip was to far northern reaches of Canada, cold weather gear was waiting for him at the airport. Might be worth looking into.

Sounds like a blast. Finland, home of my ancestors. I'd check ^^ suggestion and see if cold weather gear can be rented.

A friend of ours went a year or so ago and is going again. Short story, I got jealous and talked my wife into going too. We are planning on doing several touristy things, Ice Hotel (at least one night), snowmobiling, ice fishing, dog sledding, drinking as much as possible, and eating native dishes.

If I were you I'd pick a warmer, more remote, exotic place to visit that your friend hasn't been to yet..........then he'll be jealous/envious and you won't have to worry about frostbite :smokin:

I'm not a warm climate person.... Id take the cold artic air over a warm sunny beach any day!! We will all be going together on this trip. She lives in Germany and we dont get to see her very much.
