First time I used my $5 yard sale "come-along" winch was when a tree fell on one of my out buildings. I was able to winch the tree off the roof solo so that I could cut it up on the ground.

That thing has been extremely handy for directing trees that I'm cutting down in the back yard. With two out buildings and a house I have to be careful. I always cut a pie cut on one side and then cut down towards the pie to direct the tree in the direction I want it to fall, but I feel a heck of a lot better having that winch attached to another tree and cranked down hard with a 50k tow strap pulling the one I'm cutting in the direction I want it to fall. I usually cut my pie cut and then winch it down hard. I'll see the pie cut closing as I winch it which is a good indicator that I'm putting good tension on it. Then I cut the back side of the tree and it usually goes right where I want it. The winch is probably not needed 90% of the time, but I feel a lot better with it there.

Good luck getting your stuff fixed back up. Sounds like you have it under control.

Dang Ray did it get that bad down there? Emily is at her parents house just down the road from you. Im sure her dad would come cut it up for you if you need it gone...

Thanks Robbie. My step son is going to cut it up and haul it away. Damage is minimal. Rain gutters are toast. Tree wasn't that great to begin with. Been telling the wife that the tree was rotten because of carpenter ants, but she said it still had some green to it. She wouldn't let me remove it. Now, she has no choice. And yes, it did come down that bad. The tree fell with the first gust. Below is a pic of the underside.

It'd be a while before I could get to it and I'm sure you don't want it hanging around for a few weeks.
