Why would you feel this way?

While I do fnd him funny, he probably says that based on the fact that larry the Cable guy has never written one joke in his life. He is a performer, not a comedian. His entire bit is made up of obscure Foxwrothy bits from when he was starting out, a few old Hickman tales, and more than a couple Tracy one liners, and he stole and compiled from numerous others.

He has a nice overdone stereotypical routine, but he is alrgely a one trick pony.

So does that mean that the Vast Majority of Musicians you listen to on the radio should be dead too?

I was being mean obviously, but i think his humor is too simple. That humor becomes mainstream deafening the wit of popular culture. I see a connection in Larry's humor and the standardization of idiotic shows...while I have no problem with idiotic shows per se, i have a problem when more complex, funnier, and more enjoyable shows (Arrested Development, Futurama, Freaks and Geeks) get cancelled because they dont fit the suit of everybody loves raymond humor.
Also, humor then becomes so standard...that it becomes formulaic and that condemns new, even if simple, humor from succeeding (wonder showzen, for example). Suddenly, I am watching the same show over and over again.

That...is my rant against Larry the Cable guy. Oh and the weasels jet engine bit...that is John Benfield, and not Larry the Cable guy.
http://www.bobanddavid.com/david.asp?artID=183 that is David Cross', who is in my opinion infinitely more talented than larry, open letter to the cable guy. I mostly agree with what he writes.

No, but that is an excellent point you bring up. I dont think they should be dead, but I think musicians that are more talented and do write their own stuff should be more popular than Fergi...see where im goin with this? Demetri Martin is a better comedian than Larry the Cable Guy for that same reason...

Point taken-Just wanted to give MOST folks the opertunity to simile on a humpday

I guess you're too young to remember Laurel and Hardy, I Love Lucy, All In The Family.....

No they were funny, (and fresh) then that same show done today with different actors is tired and played.

I was refering to the level of humor of those shows.

I posted those shows as a rebuttal to this quote by jeep9mm:

The standardization of idiotic shows is as old as television itself.

no, its the "standardization" part that you are missing.
[If I undertstand his argument, or at least the one I have that coincides very closely]
There is nothing wrong with slapstick humor, hell the 3 stooges are funny today, but if I want to see that I will watch 3 stooges re runs. I don't need to see someone else remake the bit with different characters.

So as far as I am cxoncerned the idiotic shows is ok its their standardization/globalization and the lack of creative effort that sucks

You are right...moving on from Larry the Cable Guy. That is exactly what happens and id want for people to protest the regurgitated shit that is on tv, but instead people just eat it up and so networks dont gamble with fresh shows because the same old recipe works.

Bottom line.. mainstream is money.

Yeah, usually when shows come out that take intelligence and imagination, they don't last very long. But there are exceptions.

On the music note, not to put down Rap, but how many in the business actually write their own music and play instruments? I will give them credit for writing lyrics.

You would be surprised how intricate hip hop can be. The reason people put it down is because only idiots that rap about bitches and guns seem to get famous (which is what i was saying with other things).
If you listen to some underground hip hop, you will find that it is one of the few genres that is making music about social issues that matter and their beats and lyrics are powerful and complex. They are quite talented and because they are not rich and famous, you know they are making their own stuff.

Yea, you got that right. Hey, don't get me wrong I know there's alot of talent out. No one would ever know it in the mainstream. I'll say from what I've seen, the hip hop artists who just rap out number the ones who can actually play instruments, sing and write music. But that's just my observance.

I'll point out that a few of the famous ones now, when they first came out, sampled old school songs. Yea they wrote the lyrics. They weren't rich or famous and weren't writing the music or playing the instruments. But like I said I'm not bashing Rap, thats just the subject. In every style of music its the same.

(dont be mad that i quoted you just using as an example...sorry lol)
If someone is famous then there famous for a reason...someone actually thinks something of them...and that someone is the mainstream public which is most of there target audience anyway but thats beside the point...talent is talent no matter what whether you write the joke or not or write the song or not if you can tell the joke or sing the song and its funnier or better than the original than you can make it...keep in mind i do respect a comedian or songwriter that writes there own stuff and sometimes it is funnier but that doesnt mean that they should be more famous it just means theyve got different abilities...no one can really say who should be more famous than who...its all a matter of opinion and taste and you have to face the facts...thats like saying that the people shouldnt like who they like...i do agree with you that people comedians who write there own jokes are funnier and more entertaining but thats me...the people that are more popular are there for a reason...it may be wrong but thats the way it is...

and if you were making money at it wouldnt you to?

Wow. What started as a list of jokes, no matter who wrote them, has turned into this? Talking about how mainstream music and TV sucks? I originally had my shitty day brightened but oh well..........
