I've got a Ranger mud racer with a c6/np205 out of a 78 F150, no shifter hooked to the case (nowhere in cab to put a solid linkage shifter) It seems to be in 4Lo, but I cant recall the shift pattern at the rails. Both shafts are currently fully into the case, seems to be in a bind so I hate to pry/beat/etc on it to find 4hi not knowing where I'm going. Anybody remember which rail position is what?

Rail in is low rail out is high range. The rail closest to the front output controls the front, the rail closest to the rear output controls the rear output. So a ford 205 has the front axle shifter on the driver side, but a chevy/dodge 205 has the front shifter on the passenger side. Once you add a shifter the pivot changes the direction, so pulling the sticks back gives you high.

Thanks guys! 37's, low range, and 5.38:1s just wasn't working out for it.

i got this same set up in an 89 ranger. Went the longest time using a ten pound hammer and a tire tool to shift the Np205 in and out of 4x4.
