NP231 Compatibility

If I removed the T-999 3 speed auto tranny would the AX-5 manual transmission fit right in? Do they both use the NP231 Transfer case?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume a YJ here. They both use the 231 but with different input spline counts. The 999 was behind the 6 cyl, so no the AX5 will work. The AX5 is an undesirable turd to begin with and wouldn't hold up to a 4.2 or 4.0 very long.

4 cylinders - TF-904(30RH) (long 23 spline tcase input) and AX-5 (short 21 spline tcase input)
6 cylinders - TF-999(32RH) (long 23 spline tcase input)and AX-15 (short-pre 95 or long-post 94 23 spline tcase input)
