Has anyone done this swap before? Can my factory skid plate be mated to the combo? I currently have a 258 - T176 - Dana 300 combo and the latter two are secured by a mount on the transmission to the skid. After setting the jeep on a rock two weekends ago I'd love to keep a skid under there and not just go with a cross member to hold it all in place.

You can slot or redrill the holes in the factory skid to do it on the cheap. Or find someone with a press brake local that can bend you up a new one. Only thing that sucks with having them integrated, you’ll need to put a stiff leg under the tailshaft to remove the slide then drop the trans. I’ve helped do this swap on a CJ5 before.

^ just as stated, you should be able to use your skidplate. There are two different locations the skid can be mounted to. Also, you can redrill if needed. I have a curiosity about the swap. I assume the granny is the reason you want to do it? Otherwise, the t-176 is a good tranny.

That’s why the one I helped put in was installed, plus his trans was sucking

Thanks guys! Doing it mainly it for the granny low first gear. Not really sure that it's necessary, but I know the NP435 is supposed to be bomb proof, and the less that can go wrong on this old Jeep the better!
