The turn into our development is on a busy 2 lane, just off US-1. Directly across from our entrance road is a large apartment complex. A new apartment complex just up the road has brought in a few hundred more cars a day.

Most turning traffic turns right into the apartments. We turn left. Nucking Fidiots ASSume everybody slowing down is going to turn right into the apartments, and not left, so, they try as pass on the left. Against double yellow, of course.

About once every couple or three weeks lately, I've had a car try this. You have to watch the car behind you more than the oncoming traffic. A few years ago, my wife's Saturn got totalled by a dually pickup doing the same thing.

Just tonight, almost got sideswiped as I started my turn, by a car passing. My (LEFT) turn signal was on, but it didn't register to him until started to make my turn---then he had to lock it up. Of course, he was blasting his horn, not realizing as yet HE's the one that screwed up. I was hoping he'd miss me, but would hit the ditch. Would serve the asshat right.

Anyway, rant over. They just need to take licenses away from about half the population.

OK, RANT #2. The stoplight at US-1....it's the first light you come to on US1 coming into Sanford on 1. I see at least one car or 18-wheeler run this light every week. They've been running 75mph all the way from Raleigh....then wham!, here's a stop light. Limit drops to 55 a mile back....but I've seen plenty of cars and trucks just shoot thru full speed. Most realize it too late, and are going sideways trying to stop. I always pause when the lights turn green going onto US-1, cause there is a pretty good chance somebody isn't going to stop on the line. But then, of course, the Nucking Fidiots behind you at the light blow their horn 1/1000 of a second after the light turns.

That happened a couple of days ago...."lady" behind me hit her horn right after the green. I had already seen a southbound 18-wheeler coming fast, and was waiting to see if he could stop. He was doing about 45 when the came thru the intersection, trailer brakes locked up. Maybe she learned a little something then.

So up here in MD, in cases where the road has a wide shoulder and is a busy road, apparently it is normal for people to use it as a lane to swerve around people who have stopped to turn left. E.g. Car A stop to turn left, waiting for a gap to slip between the oncoming traffic, and folks behind him will go right around him on the shoulder. What really baffles me is, at least on this one major vein road, people don't even slow down - just cruise around on the right.

every now and again somebody gets plowed over b/c it will be somebody slowing down to make a turn RIGHT into a driveway and the guy bhind will start going around them. Our neighborhood is off of this main vein road and I've gotten into the habit of slowing down and driving onto the wide shoulder on the approach to the turn, and turn in from the shoulder so people can go on past me on the other side.

There are people who ride bikes on this road on the shoulder too... f&ck that noise.

Be aware that if it's a dashed yellow in lieu of solid yellow and the person behind you passes and hits you as you turn across the oncoming lane, it's your fault. With it being a double yellow, yeah, they are asshats and should end up in the ditch as a reminder of their dumbness.

Be careful out there and always check your mirrors before you turn. :)

Maybe they should put up some, big ass flashing lights before Tramway? I used to slow down there all the time to stop and eat lunch at the Palomino buffet back when it was open.

A better suggestion would be red light cams. A ticket will have them stopping next time for sure.

The Palamino is closed? :(

Back in the day I had a cousin that was paralyzed from a stroke. I would take him to his Dr appointments in Chapel Hill and we would ALWAYS stop and eat at the Palamino.
