Ok here is the deal. I am currently running a 700R4 in my Sub. The transmission has been good to me, but I've been wanting to swap in a 5 speed for some time. I've never fully trusted autos.

I have done some research will probably be looking for a parts truck near the same year as mine for the pedal assy, steering column, and engine since I plan on a 454 swap at the same time, plus any other misc parts I may need. I also plan to run a 205 transfer case.

I would appreciate any info, suggestions, links, and opinions that anyone can offer. I'm hoping to start gathering parts toward the end of the year and start the swap next spring.

The only thing I don't like about the NV4500 is that it shifts like an 18 wheeler. I swaped one in my yj. AA made the swap easy but it was a huge b-tch to get it in the jeep. Also I haven't seen very many big block bell housings for these lying around so you may have to buy new. NV4500.com is a good place to start for ID and info. If you're looking for the lowest first gear start with a chevy early to mid 90's model. I 've got an extra one lying around if you can't find one

Yeah, figured I was gonna need a new bellhousing. I also used to drive an 18 wheeler so I'm not too concerned the shifting characteristics. I know my swap will be different than yours, but what kinda issues did you have putting yours in?

I had a 700R4 to backup the 400+hp 350, but the original set up was 2.5 and 5spd. So I didn't have to put in a new steering column nor the clutch pedal. Finding the correct fly wheel clutch and pressure plated were a little difficult and then fitting the exhaust back in was aggravating. The slave cylinder was also a little annoying but all in all it wasn't terrible . The only other negative I can think of was the pilot bushing, with a transmission that weighs in at 185 to 200 pounds it is tough to get the input shaft in place. I am not a small guy by any means, that sucker got heavy after a while
