Does anyone know of any transmission rebuilders in the Hickory to Charlotte, NC area that do a good job rebuilding the NV5600?
If no rebuilders, does anyone know of a reputable company that rebuilds them and does an exchange.
So here’s my problem. My truck is a 2005 Dodge Crew Cab Dually, 2wd, 5.9 HO with the NV5600 and 172,XXX miles. I do not know if/when the clutch was replaced. I feel like transmission is a rebuild though due to color. The only things I have done is change the fluid with the Mopar stuff (6 qts.) and replace the little plastic bushing on the ball of the shifter base. The only mods are a straight pipe, K&N filter and BD exhaust Break. The truck has “fell” out of 5th for a while now while in coast. I’ve had the truck get stuck in 6th gear before about 3.5 years ago requiring a shoulder in the shifter while nudging the clutch.
The most recent problem is this: I attempt to back up Wednesday morning and the truck will not go into reverse. It is not uncommon for this to be a chore but going to 6th before reverse usually works. It did not this time. I coast backwards and go on home where I can mess with it. Once there, it goes into reverse after I find it. It feels like the shifter is going way past the gate for reverse and 6th. Up shifting is fine but when I down shift, there is no guidance what so ever as to where the next gear is. How serious does this sound and should I stop driving immediately?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I've never messed with a 5600, but the 4500s are easy to work on.

Overdrive rebuilds in concord rebuilt the nv5600 in my 01 ram 2500, 6th gear went out in mine, they fixed it right up! Cost me about 1200 bucks completely rebuilt.
When you call ask for steve.

Haven't checked this in a while. Thanks for the info...I actually work in Concord so I will check them out.

Whatever you do, don't use Mantrans.

I'm going the cheap route... maybe. I've got the shifting down, so I'm going to drive it till it breaks, tow it home and pay to have it fixed. May not be smart, but it's what i can afford right now.
