OBDII Scanner

The launch scanners at $169 are the best bang for the buck right now. Color graphing of up to 4 things(iirc).

Snap-on sells a nice bluepoint brand one that is small but does all kinds of good stuff for like $350-$400 last I remember.

Do u have an android phone? If so u can download a free app & get a Bluetooth adapter

Yeah I have the torque pro and it reads everything a traditional scanner would and more. Works great, and i'm fixing to load it onto a tablet so I can have full size gauges going down the road. I have $35.00 in it. For that cheap its worth a shot.

Will it monitor your various sensors? O2, MAP, MAF, etc? I'm asking about the Droid scanners. I paid good money for one years ago, but it's still very limited in it's scope, and it would be nice to have my scanner on my hip at all times!

OK quick lesson for some. OBD 2 read basicaly half the computer...
Let me explain a little, obd 1 had countless adapters and hook ups. The us giv said you have to read xyz on these 4 wires in the obd 2 plug so that everyday joe can work on his car. Now you can fix 80-90% of issues through obd 2 but there will be info you will not be able to read unless you use the manufature side, They can use different protcalls other than OBD 2 and do use them.... I hope this makes sense and helps....

Torque is a free app, but has a little more capability in the pro version.

It really is as Snappy said, but it can monitor some of the sensors and things on your car, depending on the car. Some it doesnt do much, others it can read a ton.

I have thought about doing above and using a cheap tablet for gauges as well.

what tablet are you using for $35?

Just bought a Bluetooth obd2 adapter from amazon for $26.77 and purchased the Torque Pro app for $4.95.... $31.72 for a total investment is not bad at all..... We will see what happens.

I have already played around with what I can access on the app....looks promising. My adapter should be here Monday/Tuesday...as soon as I get it, I'll try it out and post up.

a lot of these are nothing more than code readers. which is good but you are not going to get enough data to diagnose anything properly. granted they will most likely lead you in the right direction, but i still feel they lead into parts replacement instead problem solving.

There is an additional free plugin for the torque app. called torque scan, it gives pretty much every reading you can think, from rail pressure, fuel trims, o2 sensor data, closed/open loop, fuel pressure, manifold temp etc.etc. it depends on what features you have available for monitoring in your ecm. Plugging it in my diesel gives me a different set of readings obviously. For less than 40.00 its pretty trick. Yeah its not a $5,000 scanner, but I was able to single out the faulty O2 sensor to the exact sensor, versus just a bank. Its not a bad app.

Got my Adapter in the mail yesterday and played with it for a little bit....so far its awesome. I still need to put in the weight of my xj, to get more accurate MPG readings and get a setup that I like. Its really nice to be able to just click on the app and have all my readings right there.
Its def worth the $31 I have into it.

I've got a Scout II in my diesel that gives me more than I'd ever need, but it doesn't really let me do diagnostics other than read codes. I'll have to do some more reading on that torque app. I'm curious how much it can diagnose.
