OBUMMA CARE a GOOD THING???

at the end of it all.....

Looks like those of us in NC wont be paying the penalty if your income is low enough......

You are not required to pay a penalty for not having health insurance because of your income and because the
state of NC declined to expand Medicaid to cover individuals in your situation.

· You can still choose, but are not required, to buy health coverage through the Insurance Marketplace, but unfortunately you do not qualify for help in paying for health coverage
through the Marketplace. If you decide to buy a plan and enroll, open enrollment ends March 31,
2014. To compare and choose plans in the Marketplace, go to www.HealthCare.gov/marketplace or
call 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325).
· Starting in 2014, most people who don’t have health insurance coverage will pay a penalty. But,
because of your situation, you will not have to pay a penalty if you don’t have health coverage. This is
called an exemption. The Marketplace will send you more information about this exemption after
December 1, 2013.
· The health care law has expanded funding to community health centers, which provide primary care
for millions of Americans. These centers provide services either for free or on a sliding scale based on
your income. Learn more about getting care at a community health center on HealthCare.gov.

Okay, So after all that....with me being unemployed, zero income, the affordable care act could not provide me with coverage? but as a consolation, i wont be fined.

now if i want insurance i have to pay the increased rates through regular marketplace. Tell me again how Obamacare helped me?

So you're complaining that you're not getting free healthcare?

I believe the complaint is that the price of health insurance has gone up drastically, and he, as an unemployed person with no income is also not able to get Goverage.

So you're complaining that you're not getting free healthcare?

exactly, it leaves me to the open market, where prices have skyrocketed. this bill to make health care affordable has put healthcare even further out of reach of those who already cant afford it.

Im not a republican or democrat and could honestly care less in regards to political issues aside from the fact its funny to watch. This is a issue I've become interested in. Over the past few years as a tech I've gotten some stitches and other job related medical care expenses that even with a pretty complete blue cross plan cost me a frickin fortune. I know we need healthcare reform, of some type. If for no other reason the cost has become outrageous. I can tell you that all the plans available to me will in the end cost more than what I previously had, maybe it will cover more? I know that my primary physician used to spend more time with issues I had when I was a cash paying customer, with insurance it reminded me of a flat rate repair shop....hurry hurry hurry in and out. That may just be my doctor lol
I think politics should be left at the door and a real discussion and evaluation of the problems with the system...that being said I know NOTHING about the health care system.

Anywhere on the application did they ask your race or political party?
specifically no. but there was a place where I had to accept terms and let them check with DHS and the FBI, im sure it pulled voter registrations.

You get free healthcare.

Negative, I do not qualify for subsidies. I am left to shop the open, inflated, market at sky high prices.

Are you married, and if so, does your spouse carry insurance?

I'm starting to get the feeling that he ACA will be troublesome enough that it will shut itself down.

You know, healthcare would be far cheaper if there was competition in the marketplace and you could buy insurance out of state. But, no, that makes too much sense, and besides, the insurance lobbyists wouldn't like that one bit..

I was at the store last night. The girl in the checkout line in front of me broke down and started crying while she was paying. She had just been told yesterday that her 40 hours with benefits would be 28 hours with no insurance, no 401 contribution, nothing starting November 1st. Her coworkers got the same.

I'd have been tempted to ask her who she voted for in the last two elections. If Obama, I'd have asked how she liked her change. If ANYONE else, I'd have been tempted to pay or her groceries.

One could hope...but I see it spiraling out of control. If you don't let it run long enough, you're just a conservative racist. If you let it go too long, it'll be too big to fail. And there won't be a transition period between the two. It'll end up playing out like federal income taxes...started out you pay 1%, and we all know where we're at now.

Does it simply bother anybody else that they named it after him. Heck I would have a problem with it named after anyone. It is just another way of them pushing their authority in our faces.

Just to dig deeper, at what point does it say you have to shop? I don't see how they can expect low/no income folks to even try to sign up. The whole purpose is to have the 45 million extra low/no income people in the system and right now I think you qualify.

If you have an emergency the ER cannot turn anyone away I.e. Even if they don't have health insurance.

What subsidies were even an option for you to qualify for?

Just to dig deeper, at what point did they say you have to shop for health care? From what I understand you are part of the 45 million low/no income folks who now qualify for free health care. I wouldn't think they would even think low/no income folks would even try to sign up anyway.

I understand you do not qualify for subsidies, but now Medicare should be available for you if you needed it. The ER cannot turn anyone away.

You don't have to purchase a health plan, you don't have to pay the penalty, what am i missing?

At the end of nearly two hours I was sent a PDF listing what I qualify for...Zilch. It also told me that due to some decision NC has made I also do not qualify for Medicaid.

I DO have to purchase a insurance plan if I wish to be able to afford healthcare (I have crohns). Am I made that I do not qualify for gov subsidies, no. What I am made about is that since I don't qualify, I have to join the rest of the individual plan owners and pay the 60% increase per month in premiums so that who can have coverage? it certainly wasn't me.

There were no options. just a sentence saying I don't qualify. So the ER cant turn me away. Big deal. I still cant afford to pay it. nor the medications I would be prescribed.

That's b/c NC declined the expansion of Medicaid that was part of the plan. As a result you lost out.

Something seems amiss here, or perhaps I'm misinterpreting something.
I thought the point of the exchange was so that *anybody* could purchase insurance - the only question is how much of a subsidy you get? So shouldn't it be that you still have the option of buying, but for whatever reason just aren't getting a free subsidy?

yesterday, after it tells me im not eligible for subsides or Medicaid, the only option was for me to enter another application. I got to the first application by doing a shop for plans application.

tonight there was a "continue with enrollment" button.

these are my options: Which are still WAYYYY increased. So, I am eligible to part of the exchange, im just paying open market individual rates. This is 1 healthy adult, non smoker, non drinker, no pre existing on record.
