OBX Beach Driving - May cost $150/yr

The National Park Service issued a rule Friday that will require anyone driving on the beaches at Hatteras National Seashore on the Outer Banks to obtain a permit first.

Surprised it Hasn't Happened Sooner!

What support has the 4 wheel drive community given to the Beaches? I remember when the FS, studied fees at Carolina Beach, for 3 years, before enacting them. Even the Fisherman, I heard, stood by, until it was passed. THEN, they raised Hell! Guess since we don't normally drag our Trail rigs, to the Beach, it doesn't get the fight that Telleco, Callanta, or Uwharrie, does!

There's been a big fight going on over this for several years now. There's hasn't been much support from the 4X4 community. The fee will be nothing it's the fact that there could be 26 miles of beaches closed to everyone even walkers thanks to the DOW, SELC Wont be long before fishing at the Cape will be gone.

Closure is the Biggest Issue. How many other States, allow driving, on the Beach? Now we can start to realize how the West, feels! Freedom?

I cant see how they could keep people off the beach up there. The houses are only accessible by the beach. We go up there every year and really enjoy it.

they would just have a gate, and owners would have an access card

Its considered a part of nc12 up there on that end.....it is a actual road

The parts that will soon be off limits are south. The Cape and up to bonner bridge. Gonna miss going out there fishing but I now head more to Fort Fisher and Kayak fish.
