so i know there are some guys on here that salt water fish, live down at or near the coast. I'd really like to go on a gulf stream trip this year but its not gonna happen. Im limited to a inshore (sound/marsh) fishing or a near shore trip.

which one would be a better bet at catching some fish? they dont have to be keepers but i would like the girlfriend and her dad to catch some fish to build them up for a gulf stream trip in the spring.

Any recommendations on a boat or captain to go out with?

What kind of fish are you seeking? Blue fish, Spanish, kings, drum, trout, flounder?

If you are not heading to the Gulf Stream, I'd hit up Morehead City area fishing. There is plenty of inshore and near shore fishing there and is usually much closer than Hatteras area.

Fall trout should be thick and plentiful at the Cape Lookout jetty. Get there early or you'll be fighting for a spot. We usually limit out in 10 minutes and just catch the rest for fun for an hour or two trying different baits and methods. You can get some flounder there too. On the way back to Beaufort inlet, we usually troll and pick up some blues and Spanish. Fall is good fishing out there. :)

There is a jetty heading into the Beaufort waterfront near the port. We usually can anchor there and get a lot of black drum, sometimes 2-3 at a time on a bottom rig. The kids love it.

You can anchor up by the port wall and get sheepshead. We also toss a huge hook and 8oz weight out in the turning basin and usually end up getting hooked up to a good sized ray or decent shark. Nothing we keep but certainly adds to the excitement for the day.

Not sure on a guide as we usually take my boat out or my father in law's boat.

We are blessed to have some of the finest fishing in the country like the man said hatteras and lookout are great. If you ever get a chance to go to Louisiana fishing don't turn it down it's sickening.
