Odometer problem

I'm new to vehicles in general, but I have a '92 Cherokee Laredo. The odometer on it is stuck on 128,xxx... the speedometer also does not work at all. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

pull the speedometer housing out of the transfer case and see if the gear is ok

If the gears are ok, just replace the speedo/odometer from another XJ. 2 or 3 screws and the speedo comes right out. Each gauge is seperate and each can be replaced. Ive got a bunch for sale if you need one.

No mention of the chain, or cable, so I'm guessing, it's electric?

92 should be mechanical not electric. when you take the cable off, spin the cable counter-clockwise and should register on the gauge.

Ive parted 14 XJs, and pretty sure they did away with the mechanical speedo when they switched over to the HO engine....1991. If the cluster case is blue, its an older one with mechanical speedo, if its white, its electric.
