Offroad NC Subforum

We talking about this guy??? I only interacted with him at a few Grudge pulls, Galloways shows and a couple of TGW North vs South events. Haven’t seen him probably 5 years besides Facebook. Always thought he was a decent enough dude, wife thought his ‘mic man’ persona was a bit over the top though.

That's the one.
His mic persona was, intentionally, over the top.

And enough time has passed now that I am going to share a story that might change a few minds about him. And @upnover can verify this story.
Way back in ...maybe... 07 ish. We started a deal where NC4x4 raised some money one Christmas for a local family in need. IIRC Chip collected the money or knew the family or...somehow was a key figure in pulling it off. Somehow, and the details are fuzzy, I was also some sort of moderator of this deal...I had view access to the paypal or something. Anyway tons of folks were chipping $10 here $20 there a few $50 etc.
Then We get a ..again details are fuzzy...but we get a $250 I Think donation from Ricky. This is in the heart of the Z714Life and Sammi on 40s not cutting days and him really catching a ton of shit on the board.

We all knew he was young but not quite sure exactly how young jus knew he wasnt 21 and require a sponsor (remember those)...so a couple hundred bucks from a 18 or 19 year old college kid caught our eye. So we sent him a message "Hey dude did you mea $250 or was it supposed to be $25...just checking" or similar.

His response changed my opinion of the dude semi permanently. In short it was "yeah man college is kicking my butt, haven't been going out or anything. Get some spending money from the folks monthly, Im blessed and dont really need a whole lot. Figured it could really make a difference to another family and Id just waste it."

Again that was roughly the message.

How may 18 year olds have that perspective? I didnt.
So I decided to give the dude a chance. Hung out with him a few times and he announced some events in the ECORS days. Despite the persona I always found him to be humble, genuine and almost shy off the mic.

Anyway Im a fan, consdier him a friend and s always I stick up for my friends even if they are goofballs...So ::beer:: Ricky if you ever read this.

Like @Ron I am fuzzy on the details, and pretty much remember the highlights of that situation the same. His contribution kinda blew all our minds! Ricky was all about The Z-71, flat bill crowd, but had more enthusiasm than anyone in the wheeling world. He had a old Jeep, I think on 44's with a BB Caddy engine in it. HE has been to my home a time or two, can't remember why, other than parts or something. I did make him a diff guard for his Jeep once, delivered it to him at the farm. Lost track of him over the years. Every time I watch Madram vids, I think of him!

I understand that comes w the territory and is part of the job but I absolutely cant stand that shit and will avoid being around it as much as possible.

Bought/sold some trucks & truck parts with Ricky...always a nice guy to deal with.

I never got a chance to know or cross paths with Ricky B. Sounds like a good dude. With so many replies, maybe the sub forum should be called
Ricky B where is he?
