OH BOY!

I went through a few of those in Phoenix earlier this year and in the past in the Miami area. Considering nobody in this state knows how to properly merge or yield, I guess we should just time it for them.

Fwiw the lights typically only run the full cycle during peak traffic times. At least out there, it helped space everyone out so they could fall in line easier with the flow of traffic instead of racing down the on ramp and riding each other's asses.

They should put the money spent on this idea into lengthening the merge lanes. This will cause more traffic jams on the roads the ramps turn off of and more wrecks at the "meters".

that requires having a lot more space and is considerably more expensive.

I did like this little jewel:
article said:
House Bill 1025 clarifies that running a ramp meter is an infraction, which doesn't carry points or an insurance surcharge.

Soooo......

When I get on 540 leaving work, there are no openings in traffic so I don't see how these "meters" will help. The ramp will just back up more thus backing up traffic glenwood ave.

Don't know why everyone is freaking out over this. We had them in south Florida and they are no big deal. They pretty much switch back and forth all the time. They never stay solid red. You would pretty much roll up to it, stop for a second, and then go. I didn't really notice a change in traffic for better or worse.

Lol.ill see what I can do.

I agree, the state has become the home of a lot of transplanted, no driving morons, don't blame it on natives, most know how to merge. They should teach idiots how to use their gas peddle instead of the brake when trying to merge and add it to the license tests. If the highway is crawling merging is tougher but almost anybody will let you in if you're at or near their speed , but nobody is gonna about stop to let your too slow or stopped, no drivin, dumb ass merge into the traffic...........was that too harsh??:D

is this why when I was driving to the Keys last week in Florida I saw about 1,000 billboards with lawyers for " were you hurt in an accident? cal xxx-xxxx"

Ramp meters are fairly common in high traffic areas, particularly beltways that see a lot of peak work traffic (DC has these all over). If done correctly, they work quite well. Unfortunately our DOT has a track record of doing everything incorrectly and at some sort of exorbitant cost which in turn makes a year long project take 5.

They have these where I am from in PA. They actually work really well, took a little while for people to get the hang of them, but they seem to work ok. Spaces out the traffic. It is just constantly cycling every couple seconds.

People complained like you whiners at first, but now no one bitches. :p

As long as there's no tangible penalty I'll be driving straight through them.

LOL I always seem to have to slow down when I get to the end anyways. It's like a free speed zone. They dont call it the acceleration lane for nothing!
