im going to bryson city and am looking for a place for a day run from there to trail ride. just want to kill time while the girls are shopping. i know tellico is closed and that gulches is only open on the weekend. i looked at brown mountain but it looks like its for bikes/4wheelers. any ideas would be great.:rolleyes:

Nothing very close....You could go out to Hurricane Creek on I40 but if I remember right they made most of the "trails" very stock friendly if its not closed completely by now.

ill check that if not ill just go to uhe when i get home..i had fun there last year..

When/if Hurricane Creek was/is open there were some good trails up to Max Patch Mtn. Beautiful views and if i remember correct has something like a 50 mile 360 degree view. I have been up there once about 7 years ago and it was gorgeous. If the trails are closed you can still get up to it from the service roads.

Theres some trails around cullowhee

True. I'm pretty sure they're not "designated" so that means they're not "legal", although that never stops any locals or out of town groups from going.

If you want a nice ride up to a great view, Chastine's Creek takes you all the way up to Old Bald (Cullowhee/Tuckaseegee area).

I've been stopped by the forest service up there and all they did was check that we were legit but they did not say a thing about riding on all those logging roads.

Caney Fork and Moses Creek are legit trails and everything. The rover groups go up there several times a year to camp and wheel. I have been stopped by the game warden and forest service up there and neither of them said it was illegal.

Well I'm glad I've been proved wrong. Coppermine (up Caney Fork) can be pretty challenging from what I've heard. Can't get anyone to bring another vehicle along.

i have been up those trails numerous times from my years at WCU and I love those trails. Not too long but lots of different challenges.
