Friend has a Yota P/U that's just developed a pretty good oil leak "somewhere" on the motor. I can see there's oil mostly on the driver side of the motor towards the front. It's definitely not leaking from the valve cover, but it is leaking quite a bit. Enough to kinda spray a little around the engine bay when it's driving and leave a little puddle in the parking lot.

He said there was a pulley seal or something like that the PO had replaced recently. Does anybody know if there's an oil pump or anything like that that could be causing a leak? Any other seals/gaskets I should check out?

I don't know Toy's very well, so if you need more info, post up & I'll get him to answer whatever questions.

OIL PUMP SEAL, front of engine behind harmonic balancer.

there is an "O"ring between the pump and the timing cover that gets hard and brittle with age, allows oil to spew past it.

Also the balancer seal wil need to be changed at the same time, get the kit with the "ready sleeve". About $15 for parts and an hour or so if you have tools.

This is a timing cover set that comes with all the seals, just be sure you get the one with the Ready Sleeve

ALso, be leary of over tightening the bolts, there are thre that do not go all the way into the block, just into the cover, very easy to pull the threads.

also make sure to put bolts back in correct location longer bolt will go threw cover and hit the timing chain if you use the long ones in the top hole of oil pump. sounds like oil pump o ring could be cracked on d-side, could be crank seal, or the o-ring on the distributer but these usually don't leak to terribly bad b/c of location.

Here is the oil pump. The seal in the center is the crank seal.

The harmonic balancer will get a groove worn in it from the seal and sling oil mostly to the passenger side.

You can get a sleeve from NAPA and slide it over the pulley. I got mine from enginebuilder.com $9.

The fun part is getting the crank bolt out.

On that crank bolt, don't you just put your socket with breaker bar on it place the bar end against the frame and bump the starter?

This trick wil lwork every time.
Except one little suggestion... be sure to just bump it like once, otherwise it will very quickly drive your socket wrench into the radiator.....
