oil pressure drop, help.

i have a 97 tj 2.5L. after getting to operation temp it loses all oil pressure. i know it could be the oil pump, but what else could it be before i go and replace that?

Do you have a mechanical oil pressure gauge? It's probably the sensor on the engine.

Does the engine make abnormal noise when it drops? If not, I'd say it's still got sufficient oil pressure. Meaning it ain't the pump.

no the engine doesnt make a change at all. oil pressure just drops to 0

had the same problem with my xj i got a new sending unit for the guage ,a 15 dollar part and fixed it. thanks jeff

Yea its the sending unit. If you actually had 0psi oil pressure the engine would be noisy as hell. No need for a pump.

Use a gage to verify oil psi when hot.
