I accidentally nicked the hose for a mechanical oil pressure sending unit.
Not sure what the size tubing is - small - maybe 1/8" or so... its pretty old and brittle.
But does it really matter if the replacement is the same diameter? Pressure should be size invariant. plus the end fittings are the rate limiting step right?

At this point get rid of the payof plastic line for sure. I would upgrade to a quality electronic and keep the oil out of the cab.

$.02

Eventually I would rather fix the original dash gauge, however since it's not wired up right now I'd rather have something dependable while I'm working on the engine...

I agree with @ord.sgt.26NC If it's just a temporary thing, you can get the copper line kit cheap. Just be very easy when you tighten the fittings. Ask me how I know  I tend to be heavy handed and delicate things/soft metals don't like that.

the copper line will work good for a long period if the vibrations are held to a minmum.Think about all the copper water taps running under asphalt that have been under 50+ pounds of pressure for decades.

Yea I've got the copper lines on my Fairlane and my crawler. Coiled it like a brake line on the crawler so the body, engine, and frame can all do their own thing.

You guys have much more patience than I. The copper line kits cost what, $10?

For $20 you can have the braided stainless line I linked above with a lifetime warranty..

yea but you can't snip the leak out of braided line like you can that copper and take a buck25 union and be back rolling. I don't see a quick fix with that stuff...and it leaks givin time.

huh?
What?

How bout your brake lines?
How often do they leak?

I know the performance cars have to have the braided. They are much more flexible, resilient, and is Ron said, warrantied. BUt I have run the nylon cheapy that is supplied, and all have leaked eventually. I replaced with copper, give it plenty room to flex and insolate it where it come through the firewall, and had no issues, unless it got kicked or something. So for me, ease of repair, on a trail somewhere, I would go with the copper.

OEM fuel lines are typically braided stainless nowadays. They're subject to the same pressure ranges that an oil gauge would be, and they're intended to last the life of the vehicle.

Brake lines are running like 1200psi.

And should something weird happen and one of them opens up, you can either cut it in half and put a union on it or (more likely) just put a pair of vice grips on it until you get back to the trailer.
